I think the 3 bars lit is either contacting a DHCP server or downloading dongle .bin - somewhere around there!

Ok, well i now have a crossover cable, and i connected the MPV directly to the computer and the MPV works!

a sigh of relief that the MPV is not the issue, but i still have the issue with the

this has made me only slightly happy however...this does mean there is a problem with wireless network/router.

just as a refresh, i have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router running on SVEASOFT firmwire. what settings need to be set to get the mpv working?

BLUESXMAN comment makes me think that im gonna have to mess around with dhcp settings....does anyone know for sure?

Is the router set up as a DHCP server?

You connected the MVP to your PC using a cross over cable - this used the DHCP in your PC (presumably Win XP) and it worked. This means there is a DHCP enabled on your PC.

If DHCP is enabled on the router there may be a clash. i.e. Router gives MVP and IP address. MVP tries to connect to the MVP software on your machine but it isn't in the same IP address range as the PC

This is just something to check out but having 2 DHCP servers on the same subnet is a no-no.

Other things to check out:
Is there a firewall on your routers internal network (LAN)?
Does your router use WAP security settings? If you have a wireless PC, does it work with the router and what are the settings?

The router is set up as a DHCP server. i enabled DHCP on my pc to get the crossover to work.

the lan network connection is different to the wlan connection in the settings so they shouldnt of clashed, but as i safety measure i have now disabled the dhcp on the lan setting (even though it is no longer connected to the mvp)

All firewalls (including those on the router) have been disabled).
the wireless network is open (i.e no wep). the wireless pc connects to the router without any problems.

hope this information helps.

i am going to try flashing the router to ddwrt. maybe that will help

well, i have now flashed the firm-ware to dd-wrt. i also disabled the built in firewall.

this has not solved the issue.

interrestingly though, when i view the DHCP active table list, it briefly displays the mvp (not its name but its assigned ip address and mac address) however it expires within 1 minute.

does that give anyone any insight into whats going on?
