Okay I have resolved the two file issues without commenting them out.

but I still get this part of my problem:

I then used VMWare to load the ISO and after the successful loading of the desktop I am presented with the following error when GBPVR tray and when
GBPVR.exe tries to start

X:\i386\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\mscorwk s.dll could not be loaded

I have checked that the file is there and if I try to manually register the DLL I get application failed as the application configuration is incorrect try to reinstall the application (or words to that effect)

Any assistance would be good. how many people have it working other than pBS?

ok, hmmm...there's a little test app to check if .net2 is running, dotnetfx20-msg.exe tho i guess gbpvr is testing it pretty well...
might try re-doing the CopyNETFiles.exe part...delete old files first...
otherwise your .net2 installation may be incomplete on system..

also need the visual c 2005 runtime working, try the vc2005rt-msg.exe to test it..

usually i recommend building a standard pe boot cd, then adding components and testing them 1 by 1...

oh and it may just be running out of memory, make sure lots of ram in VMware..
around 256m should be fine for emulator...

and .net2 won't run at all from anything other than a cdrom or iso..
so far haven't been able to get it working off memorycards/sticks etc..
[and probably never will, it's designed not to]
it does work ok in vmware....video playback obviously not very good..Smile

Hi pBS,

Did you ever release a newer version of all the files than the ones in this thread?
Thinking of retrying this again with a DVD load and a compact flash on IDE adaptor as the temp.

Does this work with PVRx2?

Cheers

nope, not yet....but it should work the same...he hasn't introduced anything that's changed enough i don't think..
hardest part is building the windows itself...once ya have that done, you're pretty much set..the gb stuff just needs the registry entry updated for new version, and files replaced....rest should be same...

if you wanna see how fast gb can go, this will do it...you won't believe how fast it is with a totally fresh install...Big Grin
evr might not work, but shouldn't need much to get it going..[the fix for xp, notably]

i would stay away from newest newest video card drivers, and check all the scripts by hand, as they probably need adjustment for your system...[and the new versions of gb]
just build the windows alone first, then work on adding gb after you have a booting cd..... [also works from dvd]

the 'config' bat in gbpvr plugin dir is where most adjustments are needed...
if any other questions, feel free to ask...been a while but i use those disks for virus repairs daily..

Bart is so good Microslop copied it and put it into Vista! lol

Ok, I am trying to get a basic winxp working so that I can start the process of changing it to PVRx2. My first issue is when booting I see XPE kick in and it takes forever "Detecting PnP Devices" I mean 15 minutes or so, is there an XPE log I can look at that will help me track the issue down? perhaps you have seen this in the past?
There is very little info around on how XPE should be setup.

[EDIT] Also is there a specific driver I need to include to get ethernet support within vmware?

Cheers

yea, get the vmware plugin..i had to make my own for the version vm i was running, but either way it's dog slow in vmware anyways..
15 mins is too long tho, ook in logs on b: as that is temp..

i've gone on to use the filebasedfilewriter plugin to cache the cdrom and make itself pseudo-writable..Smile in order to run gb from cdrom itself with changes possible depending on ram availability..[tho no changes are saved between reboots]

getting direct3d going is the problem with getting good video, and no evr without a dotnet3 plugin..so i was always limited to overlay...never tried pv2 overlay tho..might wor better.
plus have newer codec setups to work with..ffdshow looks like a winner and i never tried it before...and already have plugin for that..Smile

use aprogram called double-driver to copy the drivers from target machine and work those into build..
oh and there's tons of info out there, look on bootcd.com forums i think.
newer mb's and hardware can be tenuous at best...hdaudio sound is a real pain...
[needs kb888111 before it]
so test on older hardware if you have it...
i use them all the time for repairs, once you have your build setup, it's easy to change config and add divers etc, just getting that first one going can be a pain.

can even be installed on hd but i think it breaks the dotnet2...

The main issue is I am using your files you provided and I am having trouble getting my head around which plugin is authoritive for:

1. drivers
2. PnP
3. Menu

any clues on how to work my way through your files the ones provided in this thread would be welcome, I have so far spent around 5 nights trying to work it out :-(

1.most drivers come from windows. but for other hardware you can add them as individual plugins, or just pile them into the XPE plugin subdirs, [separated into inf,system32, and drivers]
2.pnp is handled by xpe plugin by using bartpe.exe with -pnp switch...search the xpe infs for pnp...[explainations in there, should already be doing pnp automatically]

3.menu, which menu? desktop icons? start menu?
start menu/desktop/shortcut items are specified in .inf file [usually at end] like so:
0x2,"Sherpya\XPEinit\Desktop","GB-PVR","%SystemDrive%\Programs\gbpvr\gbpvr.exe"

most of help needed for bartpe can be found in it's help files..including plugin building info, adding drivers etc..

check out the inf files, they aren't windows inf files, but may contain that stuff...
there is also some plugin building programs out there..tho usually best when you know how to build them manually..[not that hard]

most of my stuf is like several plugins bunched together, or i'd have tons of different ones to remember to enable..

video card drivers are the most important, needed for accell. video..
sound obviously too, but can be hard to get to install right..
having problems booting it up? or just some hardware?
lots of hardware plugins are out there, but most are older, i had to make most of mine myself...[you can find ati/nvidia, but based on older drivers, etc.]
usually it's as easy as copying .inf,.sys and other stuff to a dir and making the inf mods necessary to make it a bartpe plugin...

it's a long road even for the professional, but well worth it once you get it down, and sweet as a backup os beside windows on hard drive..Smile
the vista version pe can do directx+ but i hate vista with a passion...Big Grin

Thanks for the help on the your previous post pBS.

I have changed my tactics, I have been trying for quite some time now to get my own version up and running and stealing ideas and info from your setup as I could not for the life of me get yours to boot properly.

So I have now got a booting base windows with a start menu and taskbar, loads of app installed. the main problems I seem to be having our:

1. getting Audio to work - as you have already said this can be difficult so I will keep working on this.
2. WMP it opens and then shuts down straight away. is there a log that you are aware of that may say what the problem here is? I have looked at the ramdisk bartpe logs - nothing, I have also looked at the event logs - again nothing. interestingly mplayer2.exe works fine
3. internet explorer doesnt start at all again nothing in any logs.

I am using XPE 1.07 not 1.06 I am also using Colin Fincks beta 3 plugins for vc2005 and dotnet2 which brings me to point
4. whats the best way of launching items such as the vc2005 to automatically run on boot up, it works if I register it manually after bootup so just need to automate this.

cheers

what kind of audio card? does it require kb888111? those are the hard ones [HDaudio]
the rest are usually quite easy...Smile i made a hdaudio plugin just for kb888111 but load order sometimes needs changing for certain cards..i found a utill to see load order, so may do some experimenting with that to provide complete fix for 888111..

WMP is probably closing because of lack of audio hardware...[setup sound and it should work] btw is it wmp9 or 10? [ i slipstreamed 10 but you don't have to]

not sure about IE....hope you don't have ie7 installed...lol i've never had any problems with ie in any builds..that should show errors in logs [event viewer]

vc2005 i believe is just a reg. entry and copies files from your installed machine's vc.
so if you're building on a vista machine or don't have vc installed it will fail..
i actually had errors in my dotnet when i started so i had to repair it first...dotnet can be damaged and you won't know it..and i think vc requires dotnet plugin working...
i modified the vc startup as i had put the .reg into a system folder so didn't need to add it again..[it may just be remmed out in your version]
the vc2005rt-msg.exe is there to test it's working and also one in dotnet to test that..

technically this is like building your own custom windows..lots of bits to deal with..Big Grin
i may try to make a ramdisk version, flies like the wind, and writable..[saves changes]
run from hd, it is like cd ver but writable and updateable..Smile
