Turns out the company I work for creates TV Listings for many cable and satellite providers in Canada.
I want to approach them with the idea of replacing the zap2it service. Before I do, can anyone tell me what work would be involved from their end? Currently all the data ends up in an Oracle database before being distributed. Also, how would they protect themselves from the same 'abuses' that zap2it complained about? Plus while I'm at it, any suggestions on how they should do it ie. paid sub, free ad-supported or surveys like the other service are appreciated. I want to make this as easy and compelling as possible for them to consider. Thanks for your help in advance!

Another thought to get the data is through satellite EPG. Dish Network has all the EPG info on it. You don't even need a multidec plugin to get it. Since it is not encrypted, I don't see any moral issue and you won't take any body's bandwidth since they are already dumping it on your house. I can get 2-3 days of data off another program (My Theatre) but as of yet, I have not got GBPVR to get the EPG. I looked and have yet to figure out if you can get at the EPG data in MT or DVBDream. I have been waiting for Sub's 1.x to come out to reinstall and try it again. I assume if I get the EPG off the sat, then I should also be able to use the data for my 150 cards. I would just have to remap the sat channel data to the local channel numbers. BTW, one of Dish's Sats has a data transponder channel called zap2it. I don't know if you can get at that data or not. That really won't be an issue if I can get the Dish EPG data off the sat through GBPVR.

I've still not implemented support for the proprietary Dish format. I will try to look into before zap2it finally goes away though.

Thanks Sub, I was just surfing and it looks like there may be a plugin for exporting the data out of MT in xmltv. It looks like Sage guys worked on an interface plugin for this. That could be a work around but native sure would be great! I know this new mess has taken up a lot of your time (especially while you have the kids running around and 1.x to get out) Thanks for your help from all the "other side of the world" users. We still have time. I am sure several good solutions will come.
