After initial smashing success, I'm finding comskip jumps on the shows I've watched tonight are VERY late, by a minute or more on both ends (i.e. if I do nothing, I watch a minute of commercial, then miss a minute of show). These are shows I've recorded since putting in the skipping patches. I know, not much use without more detail, but I'm going to bed. I'm just wondering if anyone else is seeing this?

I know I'm late to the party but I just tested these patches with my Ghost Rider sample (and other shows recorded from the same channel) since they are the most troublesome. BIG improvement!! I did not expect skipping to be perfect because (as Martin noticed) there are issues with the stream totally outside of NPVR control, but I can at least skip with them now and get better results than I did previously.

Its only lightly tested, but here is an update to give better skipping in live tv and during playback of in-progress recordings from client PCs.

This slightly changes the communication protocol used between clients and servers, and needs to be installed at both ends, otherwise it'll break things.

After installing this update the recording service on my server crashes my computer as soon as a client connects. Nothing in either logs gives a clue as to why, but I'v seen a BSOD saying "IRQ not less or equal". Running the server without clients works. Unfortunately I don't have the previous version of Patches.zip, can you post it so I can verify that this fine caused the problem?

Edit: Nothing to be found in windows event log either.

you can roll back using the pre-r2 skip patch in the sticky

I doubt it's going to cause a BSOD. Did you see the problem more than once? The patch just involved sending a few more bytes across the network connection.

If you reproduce it though, then post the client and server logs, I'll see if anything stands out.

Do you have a Nova-T-500 PCI tuner, do you run XP and could you have been accessing both tuners at the same time? The error you have can be caused by a bug in an XP SP3 driver. You can either downgrade the driver or apply a patch. I've got further details if it sounds relevant because I've just had to fix that problem.

I see the same problem repeadetly, not the BSOD thou. There is also the strange behaviour og Newcsgui which creshes on startup giving message "Index out of bounds (0)", which I did not get before installing the latest patch. Running NewCS.exe in a command prompt works as expected, but the GUI is using tcp/ip to communicate. The pre-R2 patch would take me way too long back, I just wanted the prevoius version of "patches.zip" to be able to determine if it is in fact caused by this update.

@R1Dave, I'm running W7Ux64, no hauppauge cards whatsoever.

If you can post the client and server logs showing the problem, I can check them. It was a fairly trivial change, and shouldnt have caused problems as long as the client and server both had the patches.
