I have a H3 version MVP and I've been using GBPVR 97 with dongle 24023.bin quite sucessfully.

I upgraded to 98.8 and decided to try the new dongle.bin that I though was going to make my entire life better Smile

Selected the new dongle in the GBPVR config, GBPVR recording service restarted, removed power from MVP for a few second and repowered it.

After the 5 rectangles went blue on the first screen, I got a screen asking me to select a language, I've never seen this before so I think this proves I'm using the new dongle. I select english and then it displays a screen saying:

FIRMWARE RECOVERY

CR32 check failed, press mute key to do the recovery.

I wimped out the first time and pulled out the power but I got this on every retart.

I tried doing the upgrade, it appeared to download data but then said :

Firmware flash failed.

I can still use dongle 24023b.bin sucessfully with 98.8 but I'd like to know if there is something I'm doing wrong or if the new dongle is incompatible with my MVP.

Is anyone else using the new dongle with a H3 MVP?
Has anyone else seen anything like this before?

Would be greatful for any advice

Thanks

This is interesting. I've been noticing a file in the Hauppauge\Hardware folder called resource.bin which is language related and it seems to match one of the firmware memory areas on the MVP but I never have been able to figure out how this might get loaded and so your setup might be triggering something new.

This is total speculation but you might need to run the latest Hauppauge software that supports this new dongle to make the change that is being requested.

Out of curiousity is your host Windows running in a language other than english or did you buy your H3 from a non-english speaking country?

Nope and nope.

Windows is installed in English and I bought it in England.

I think I'll try what you suggest about running up the hauppage software with the new dongle. I havent got any hauppauge software installed at the moment, I simply copy the dongles into GBPVR.

MediaMVP rev. H2, version 2.04

Tried GB-PVR 98.13's default dongle--reboots in the middle of watching recorded mpeg shows. Reboots on menu button-presses. Very frustrating.

The following dongles wouldn't even get past the Loading... screen:
v25_33209
v25_24023b

Tried dongle v30_24088. Much more stable. Same rebooting as 98.13's default, but a *lot* less frequently.

The search for a reboot-free dongle continues...

Suggestions?

Did you apply the patch from here: http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=1...stcount=49

It helps with a MVP stability problem on a v0.98.13 install.

Thanks -- I'll give it a try.

(I didn't originally install this because I thought that, since I was downloading 98.13 significantly after this patch was released, the current 98.13 downloadable file would have been modified to already include it).

I'll post back what effect it has.

Nah, I dont typically update the installer with any patches. If I do, its usually with in the first 24 hours after a release (I've only ever done this twice though).

Yah, I remember you doing that. That's why I thought it was "standard procedure".

Is there any way for us to know what patch(es) is/are available for a given release?

I clicked on the "Download" link, but that took me directly to the (unpatched) .msi installer.

Links to the important patches for a release are posted in the sticky 'survival guide' thread.

Huh? That link I provided above had the patch attached as a zip file. You download this file and replace the original file of the same name.
