Hi dottore,
I've installed it as well, and have to say that the cd-functionality is great - all worked fine for me (although my CD-ROM is the first CD drive listed, so I of course don't have Heyt's problems with that).

One thing though, is that the cddb lookup appears to be pretty hit and miss for me - I stuck in three or four of my most "mainstream" CDs, and only one got a listing back from the CDDB (eg Pearl Jam's "Ten" recognised, but not Lauryn Hills "Miseducation" etc). What database are you using? I usually use freedb.org, which recognised all four CDs - probably far too much work, but maybe making the db choice a user option (eg choose from au.freedb.org, us.freedb.org etc as well as your current default?)

Otherwise it all works great - now if I could just sort out how to get 5.1 sound from my DVD-ROM through my crappy sound-card, I could dump my DVD/CD player entirely!

cheers,

tieke

concerning cddb-lookup: it's not that much work....i will add that feature in the next days, it was planned that you can choose a server from a drop-down-list and enter username and passwort by yourself.

if there aren't any other errors or problems i will try to fix the drive-thing and add the requested functionality...

hi Dottore,

Very nice plugin mate Smile

Some feedback from playing with it:

1) I dont get track info from net on any CDs. tried 6 mainstream ones. Same problem as detailed elsewhere maybe? my drive layout is C and D as HDDs, E: as the CD/DVD drive and F: as a virtual Daemon tools DVD drive.

2) Using the eject button on the drive itself doesnt refresh the track list in the plugin. the old tracklist remains when you insert a new CD and selecting track 4 (for example) results in the CD playing from the point where track 4 would have been on the original rather than the new disc.

3) more of a request for future release....feel free to tell me to go swing one if its too tricky, im not a programmer so dont know... is it possible to use a database to store downloaded track info so as not requiring a net lookup for a CD once its done it the first time? Im building a system for use with a 56k modem as broadband isnt an option for my relatives who the system is for. it would be nice if the plugin went and fetched the info the first time you used the CD, then stored it for future reference so you wouldnt need to connect the next time you played the same CD.

oh and had another thought....

Ive found that some of the online databases (the ones that allow people to submit info to them) that are a bit hit and miss because one person will submit a CD as 'Blah Blah....Best Of' and another will submit 'Best Of Blah Blah' for the same CD, so maybe if the net lookup doesnt come up with an absolute match, it could present the user with a menu listing the possible matches in a similar way that the 'My Video' plugin does with TV/Movie info. is this a lot of work?

strange....have you set up E: as cd-drive? probably the plugin uses d: per default....have to look at it.

ok, that's a bug. will fix this.

i wanted to do this in future releases. reven said, i could use his database...i don't know yet, must think a bit on it.

for the moment, you should deactivate cddb-lookup....or download a cddb-database and link it in configuration ;-) when i have done this...

concerning multiple hits: i will do this when i include a database. it shouldn't be too hard to implement.

Hiya,

Yup, E: is set as the CD drive....

tried swapping CDs with the lookup disabled to see if this would trigger a refresh of the list and doesnt seem to solve the 'no-refresh-list' bug.

If yuo want any logs or other stuff let me know

no, the drive-letter won't solve the refresh-problem. i wonder why you don't get any cddb-information. is there a firewall in between?

maybe i'll add some logging to the plugin ;-) just wait a few hours, then there will be a version with logging. without bugfixes, but with logging ;-) then you could post some logfiles...

thanks for testing!

The firewall occured to me too, i turned off my windows firewall for a while to test it but still same result. Will wait on your logging enabled update :-)

ok, here is another release:

http://www.sitecomposer.de/cdplayer.zip

i added logging and selection of cddb-server in the config-app. i made drive-selection easier and changed the insert/remove-cd - behaviour.

after downloading you should start the config-app and re-configure the plugin.

have fun!
