Thanks guys,

I found this article on soundblaster forums:
http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/...e.id=12170

apparently the sound test doesn't work with the spdif out, since it's uncompressed. I'll have to find a way to send the audio data from the dvd through the soundcard compressed and from what I've read earlier ffdshow is the way to do that.

Also, these guys say a mono minijack to a mono rca should work for the connection:

Remember that ffshow is going to add processing overhead (eg, my viewing in TS mode is 55-75%, whereas is would be 30-50% w/o audio handling). That said, I have been using it this was since the summer, the sound aspect has worked perfectly.

The bonus to ffdshow doing this is (you can also get AC3Filter to do the same w/ the same steps, if it is your preference) is you can use it to boost the audio. You'll find true 5.1 source sound softer since it is truely sending the correct sounds to the appropriate speakers. It saves you from having to turn the receiever way up instead (giving you more audio vol range control on the remote)

Hey, I got this working last weekend. Watched 'Saving Private Ryan' and everything was working well. The only problem I noticed was when I was watching live tv. The sound seemed to be out of sync with the video. I checked the task manager to see if I was taxing the cpu but it was at 10-15%. What's the deal? Is ffdshow taking extra time to compress the mpeg stream and that's the delay I'm seeing?

If you turn on "show tray icon" in ffdhsow (both audio and vid), you can see when it is running. You can get a delay if it's doing too much post-processign (even though your cpu number are load).

I think show tray icon is on. I can see the icon when playing DVD or live tv. What type of post-processing? Is there a way to reduce the overhead?

If you right-click on it, you can see what it is doing, and what post-proc is doing for each one. I have these four going:

Resample
Mixer
LFE
Vol

If you have only these, or less, I'm not sure then. I use the Intervideo decoders and BDA.

You can try chaning the Mixer to "same as input". This will leave TV as 2ch.

I guess that's a question I have then. I'm not sure which decoders I'm using. Also, I have a pvr-350 and its supposed to use the bda drivers, but do I need to install some extra stuff as well? Where do the intervideo decoders come from?

You're getting outside my scope, I'm afraid. Hopefully someone familiar w/ the 350 can take it from here. I'd just suggest switching to same as input in ffdshow as I mentioned to see if that helps w/ TV.
