Eating healthy gets boring after a while.... Actually I'm hoping Taco Bell does it which is where I stop when in a hurry. I also watch a lot of racing which slo-mo would come in handy. Com-deals, that's a good one!

You know, it's an interesting way for Taco Bell to get some hard numbers on the number of people that TIVO'd the Olympics.

Advertisers hate the fact that people are skipping commercials and TIVO itself is probably relunctant to give com. skip numbers because they know that it might be used against them and their customers. (Advertisers would love legislation that made the use of hardware or software that allowed convenient commercial skipping illegal). The novelty of their coupon scheme and the fact that people can save money increases the likelihood that people will use it, and I'm sure they'll extrapolate the redemption numbers to get a better feel for how many people ARE skipping commercials.

Or they could just move on and think up another way of generating revenue.

Look at the music industry and see how fast you can say "shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted" when it comes to downloading mp3's and that industry playing catch-up!

I actually think its not a bad idea. Look at it from "com skippers" perspective. You have the ability to skip so you do. So if your going to take the time to watch a commercial you might has well be rewarded for it. I'm not sure how many people really grab the tv signal out of the air anymore but I pay for cable. If I pay for it I'm going watch what I want. Not, commercials(Unless its the Superbowl). But if an advertiser wants to give me an incentive to watch the commercial they are welcome to try. But if this does become a trend I think the "Com-Deals" plugin I suggested might actually become less of a joke.

Time will tell.

Yeah, but if everyone were offering a deal it wouldn't be any different than the "deals" they're offering now. Do you watch the commercials to see what's on sale this week? No. People might do this once just because it's novel, but no one who can skip commercials is gonna make a habit out of watching all of them just to find out they can save an extra 20 cents at Taco Bell, especially if you have to watch them in slow motion.

Like Jim said, being able to skip the commercials is far better than any coupon I'm going to get.

Maybe this is a special one-time gimick just to promote a new menu item or what-not, but my guess is Taco Bell is going to be looking real hard at the redemption numbers on this one and not because they expect people to make a habit out of watching their commercials in slow motion.

The whole thing is absurd. It only takes one person to watch the commercial in slo-mo and post the findings on the internet. I haven't googled it, but I am sure the "hidden message" is already running freely and wildy around the web.

Funny, after reading this thread I started looking for the KFC commercial in my Olympic recording. Didn't find the commercial, but krc.com has the commercial that you can try to find the code.

Took me 10 minutes, but I found it. Sure enough, there's a secret message.

Lemme know if you want the spoiler of the message.

Is there anyway you could use a commercial detection program with a custom logo to search and mark KFC logos in a recording?? This way you wouldn't have to watch the adds but you could find any KFC coupons burried in there!! Sounds like a whole new plugin to me

"Mobius Coupon Harvester!"

I could have it as a payed service, you buy credit to use it and then it takes 5% of the money saved in the coupon off your account for each coupon you harvest!

I could be RICH!!

The MAN, and Big Brother have discovered the secret.

CBS(?) has decided to pull the commercial because in encourages people to record tv programing. They fell that the "hidden" message is too much like subliminal advertising.

Never fails. Someone innovate's and someone else trys to squash it.
