Can't argue with that, as long as they do their job it's hard to compare av-software. I always recommend AVG to people that have a small wallet. I saw AVG once turned off, (or the update turned off) by a virus, trojan or whatever.
I will never use Norton again, I tried it once and ended up with a format C.
Must admit that that happened quite a while agoSmile

AVG = Arguably Valuable Goods
NOD32 = Next One Drinks 32!
NORTON = Negligible Old Rhino That Only Nags
MCAFEE = My! Can All Fish Enter Eden?
KASPARSKI - I give up ... :p

Disclamer: It's just for fun, OK?

PS. In Hebrew, if you just change McAfee to McAflee, it means something like "it crashed again". (Just noticed that McAflee is funny even in English)...

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I shall look into AVG or NOD32 and ZoneAlarm; I already use MS AntiSpyware.

I do have a router but my setup is quite basic having evolved over time. I use an Origo One Port Router and an ASUS Wireless Router. I should probably look into replacing them with a single ADSL Wireless Modem Router.

I must start using Firefox more, I shall download the latest version and set it as my default browser.

Once again, cheers for all the information,

Dont waste your time looking at NOD32. I know it is incompatible with the next release of GB-PVR.

NOD32 is incompatible with .net remoting (in .net 2.0), which causes the recording service to crash after a few minutes. The DLL they insert into GB-PVR's process for monitoring network calls has a logic flaw, which doesnt cope well with the way Microsoft pass some network data in .net remoting. The problem is known to affect lots of apps.

I saw indications that NOD32, Net Limiter and Panda Anti-Virus all have this same flaw. There are reports indicating that the users of NOD32 and Net Limiter have reported this bug to their authors, so hopefully a fix will be available soon (although its been about 6 months so far...).

Any other AV software you know of could be problematic?
AVG? Kasparski? Norton? McAfee? Trend?

Thanks,
GGF

pc-cillin makes a good suite. I came to it from norton. It has all the functions of norton, and takes much less resources to run.

Yeah, potentially any of these sorts of apps have this same potential to cause problems.

The only reason I know about the problem above is because I was finding my recording service was crashing in imon.dll. A quick bit of research on the topic (google) turned up quite a bit of information on the problem.

Discussion on the Microsoft forums indicated that NOD32, Net Limiter and Panda Anti-Virus are known to have this problem. There were no other products identified, so I'm going to assume the others work fine until I hear otherwise.
