Oh, I tried to install the x86 version of .NET 2.0, but it wouldn't let me install it on an x64 OS. So no help there.

Quote:Is there a GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log?

There is, but all entries are dated 6/22/2006, which I might guess is just the default? Would you still like me to post it?

Quote:...is there an entry in the Windows Event Viewer saying what happened?

Just, "Service cannot be started. The service process could not connect to the service controller".

Try going to the command line, cd to "\program files\devnz\gbpvr", then try to run: GBPVRRecordingService.exe RUN

The command line will probably return instantly, but maybe you'll see GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log listed in the task manager?

I'm surprised at that. There is no GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log file shipped with GB-PVR, so I would expect this has been created on your machine...

Let me post it, then. There were actually three--the default, and then ones with a -1 and -2 appended to their filenames. Hmm, I did have GB-PVR installed before. Maybe these files are from my initial installation, and weren't deleted when I uninstalled the old version and re-installed the new one yesterday?

The command line will probably return instantly, but maybe you'll see GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log listed in the task manager?

Same "Start Service Failure".

I really appreciate your trying to solve this for me. You've really gone out of your way for a user running an OS you don't officially support.

Sorry unfortunately none of this has really given me any useful clues. If you've got VNC on your machine, I could remotely connect and take a look.

sub - I've had an idea about the first error message Jonathan Bones mentioned since I first saw it...but it's a bit complicated and I don't have an answer. :o

It's what you get if you're a dumb ass like me and try to start a Windows Service project from within Visual Studio. It's also what I got when I converted my .NET 2003 DVBT Radio project over to .NET 2005 - the service installer didn't get converted properley in the process and I had to rebuild it by hand. Obviously the original installer was for 1.1 and .NET 2.0 didn't quite like it. For the life of me I can't remember what I did to fix it.

Just a guess - there's something about the 32-bit .NET 2.0 Installer stuff which isn't right for x64 .NET 2.0???

Cheers,
Brian

I went through similar things when I first moved to .NET 2.0 and VS2005, but I'm fairly sure that is not the case here.

In this case he cant even run it with the 'GBPVRRecordingService.exe RUN' command. I'm not really sure what is going on.

Wait! I can get it to run this way! I'm sorry, I wasn't familiar with this operation and didn't perform it properly before. And, now the second problem is gone, too! I can open the program, and watch television! Haven't tried to record anything yet, but I assume that would work fine, as well.

So, what now? Do I just have to start it manually like this every time I start Windows?

I'm also running x64, I've never had problems with the service not starting..

One thing I can tell you: With your card, you NEED to update to use the beta drivers. If you don't you will have problems.

See: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=14006

I haven't tried 09808, I'm still running 09713 (If it's not broke, don't fix it)..
