I'm still concerned about what is causing this to happen and it's effect on the MVP. Using the MVP software I don't seem to have any problems. It's only after I stop the Hauppauge services and start the GBPVR that this happens. I may just need to wipe the folder out and reinstall from scratch. Thanks for the link. On my system, there are two services installed by the Hauppauge mvp software:MVPMedia and MVPMediaSvc. I think you need to disable (or set to "manual") both of them.

I finally just uninstalled gbpvr and reinstalled it from scratch and the MVP is working like it should now. It may have been a corrupted file or even a problem with my drive. System mechanic was used and seemed to fix a few other problems I have been having. CPU cycles were high and something was slowing the system down (definintely not a virus or spyware).
Just for the record since I asked, I do have the latest MVP software installed just to make sure it was working ok, then turne stopped the service. Only problem I seem to be having so far is with Xrecord but I'll post the proplem there. Thanks for all who helped.
