seems really interesting and I'm going to give it a try. I too use the
mvpmc mainily for audio but still looking for ways to get better WAF.

Physik's musiclibrary2 is a very good plugin for music as long as all your music is correctly tagged, if you rely on a directory structure rather than tags it wont work very well

it has a few issues when used with the MVP with very large music collections [mine is about 10,000 tracks] navigation and searching could be a bit better but the problem really is control via the remote

I have already tried slimserver and your alpha dongle a while back, but the interface was horrid presumbaly because I was using gbpvr to load the dongle and had no way to change the skins etc

but hopefully I'll get a bit of time over the weekend to try things out and debug what the problem actually is

thanks for the pointers

The errpr is just saying that during one of these attempts to talk to the MVP, it found it was no longer connected. ...so is not really caused by the timer refresh, but rather the timer refresh happens to be the first time it notices the MVP has disconnected because of something that happened earlier. I hope that makes sense.

Ah so the text that says that connection was forcibly closed by the remote host actually means the MVP is the remote host I was reading it the other way round and looking for something on the server end that would close the connection

I used to use only the directory structure when I converted my CD collection, but it was so structured that I was able to write a tiny program a few years ago to add the tag so I think I'm ok. It's just going to be such a pain when I do this all over again to lossless.

I have never seen a perfect solution for browsing a large collection with a remote control, but when I compare the alternative of cd cases all over the house, car etc, it isn't really that bad.

I think the slimserver interface is limited by the 2 line display which the GBPVR/mvp avoids so I seriously doubt you'll switch even with skins. I actually don't understand the apparent success of slimdevices (now Logitech) and Roku in relation to Hauppauge for the audio STB market especially with GBPVR.

mediamonkey and eags on! are both good at tagging as is the godfather but the learning curve with that is very steep !!

Agreed the only reason I started using gbpvr was for playing music originally using the jukebox plugin, which I dont think works any longer, but thankfully physik has been very good at adding the features I and others wanted so now its about as good as it is likely to get.

I think people are very dismissive of the capabilities of the MVP for what is an exceptionally cheap device it has a quite remarkable feature range, especially when coupled with gbpvr

the music interface with musiclibrary2 is pretty good and while it is maybe not quite how I would have done it personally, its fine and interfaces are very subjective and Physik has done an excellent job

no the only reason I am thinking about trying slimserver was to see if stability would improve, although even that is hard to pin down sometimes I can leave it running for 12 hours with out any problems other times it will only be for an hour or so

Perhaps not the thread tkgafs, but I'd be interested in hearing some of your navigation ideas....prehaps start a new one, or email me directly if you prefer...

Sub,

I'm also seeing the same refresh error:

The above is the last thing in the log and the MVP just sits at contacting servers. The only way to get it working again is to restart the recording service. It's been happening randomly for me the last 2 releases. I am using the stock dongle and blue.

I was getting the same Timer Refresh Error. I found that if I watched by using the guide as the entry point rather than just hitting live TV, this problem did not occur.

Seems to be more consistent, it's happening at least once a day. I guess I'll try some other dongles but it's interesting that I can get it back by restarting the recording service. Need to find a hub and put a sniffer on the network to see what is actually going on. That or upgrade to a real switch so I can span a port....

I don't use it for live TV, only recording. All playback is done via MVP's.

I changed to the 33.24257b.bin dongle and everything seems to be right with the world again. Life is good....unstable GBPVR is not normal and cause for great irritation.
