Thanks again for the continuing recommendations. Went by EB-Games today but they didn't have a very good PC selection. Picked up X-Men Legends II to try it out, and plan to head to Best Buy and Comp-USA later this week to pick up some others.

Well, I've only been able to try it out for a little while, but it seems there are far too many keyboard commands to map properly. How many are actually necessary during the course of normal gameplay I'm not sure, but it seems it wasn't really meant to be played without a keyboard handy. Maybe my mind will change when I play a bit more though.

When customizing your controller, it does at least recognize all the axis and buttons on my gamepad, and mine's one of those that's PS2-like with extra buttons.

Is there any compatibility issues when connecting the xbox controller to the PC and what software do you use to map the buttons? I have been thinking of buying a wireless controller and playing with the emu's but have not yet spent much time on it.

theres a really good driver for the xbox controller, so it just behaves like a normal windows one, every button is then accessible for the controller. and you can change things like using the triggers as sliders, different axis etc. pretty much ive never had an issue using the controller, other than games not supporting any controller fully.

google around for the driver, theres only a few out there, and i found it on the first google page.

oh and my xbox -> pc converter came with a driver, but that one was rubbish.

I can't remember what buttons I programmed (I have a logitech rumble pad)
However, I found I was able to play through a number of levels on X-men Legends with just a game pad.

Maybe you guys can answer a couple questions I have that is sort of on subject. What is MAME exactly? What's the difference between that and an emulator or is there any? Also, I downloaded a PS2 Emulator but there are no ROMS available for it and when I went to the forum for it everyone seemed to be yelling down people looking for ROMS. What is the point of having an emulator for PS2 if you're not using ROMS? Are PS2 games in a format that your system can read them with the right software?

I know I always ask a hundred questions in one post. I just can't help myself.

MAME is a emulator for arcade games, so street fighter, marvel vs capcom, the classic metal slug etc.

all emulators need roms, there is little point in a PS2 emulator without roms, but last time i checked the PS2 emulators were pretty rubbish (too much horsepower needed to emulate them).

roms are pretty easy to find, and i think in most cases you are allowed to download the roms legally if you own a copy of the game, ie you can download SNES roms if you own the SNES game etc.
