It's not your tv set to automatic fill screen (something like that)?

Happens here sometimes, too. I think this and anything similar is related to the hauppage dongle.

Powercycle the MVP does occasionally help, In my case it didn't so I googled the ffmpeg command line options and found an aspect ratio option that I use in the MVP FFmpeg commandline, so mine looks like this now and works just fine.

<MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLinePAL>-y -i "{SOURCE_FILE}" -b 2400k -ac 2 -ab 128 -r 25 -s 352x288 -aspect 16:9

Thanks again for your replies.

Now I added the -aspect 16:9 to the config.xml in the ffmpeg section and it's kinda fixed it. I say kinda because although I'm not missing the left and right parts of the picture, I now have a black border top and bottom - which I think I can live with.

But in the knowledge that the films can be viewed without these borders I'd like to pursue it - so does anyone have any ideas on these please?

Thanks.

try to select "full" instead "panoramic" or "16:9" settings on your TV-set
(or is it the other way around  )

Try a mvpmc dongle (-> emulation mode). Should zoom right. That's why I think it's a hauppage related problem. If so there's no fix for it ATM available.
