I just bought myself Hauplauge MVP and installed it. I had a problem with the Hauplauge software - it gave message failed the find GUI server and an error msg on the PC saying that MVP GUI has encountered a problem and needs to close.
I read a bit in the forum and decided to istall the GB-PVR.
The interface is so much better - well done.
It found the server alright and also the directories for photos, movies, music.
However only the photos play. When i try to play avi movies - xvid or wma music nothing happens and with the music files it actually causes the MVP box to restart itself.
I run a XP SP2 with Atlon X2 2ghz dual processor.
What could it be?
I checked the firewall settings and gbpvr files are in the allowed list - inbound.

GB-PVR won't play non MPG video files natively... that means you have transcode of the fly. (that's actually how the Hauppauge software works too)

GB-PVR ships with FFmpeg, and the default settings usually work well to transcode, though it will not maintain aspect ratios... The picture dimensions will all be blown out to the full screen...

You may want to look at ZProcess.
http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/ZProcess

ZProcess is also currently being redeveloped, and may work even better for you when done.

The current version, though has been a great success by GB-PVR / MVP users...

I had the MVP hauplage services disabled when I tried the GB-PVR. Maybe I should uninstall the Hauplage software althogether?
I have put cyberlink powerdvd decoder for the video and sound recoding in the GB-PVR menu. Could this be affecting the non playing of videos and mp3?

Uninstalling the Hauppauge won't solve it if the services are off. I would look further into the firewall, you actually have to allow access for PVRX2 if you are using the new interface. Also before testing transcoding of files try standard mpeg2 video and mp3 audio. Uploading your logs would help it might relate to other problems too like playing from a share).

Reproduce the problem then zip and attach your logs and I'll take a look.

When i try to play an xvid the screen goes blanc and the MVP crashes and restarts itself!!!
Cant be an issue with not having powerful enough pc - atlon x2 dual 2 gxz shoul be be plenty to trascode the dvx me thinks!
If I try to start the movie from the pc again it crshed the gbpvr aplication.

I'm starting to think the issue is not just Transcoding and ZProcess. Be sure to get all the issues fixed before we concentrate on Transcoding on the fly with anything, even ZProcess. As far as having a strong enough computer, maybe have a look at this...
