well, with the log situation i'll be stuck to using a hard drive for gbpvr..[it's a bit large for a ram drive, i can get my os to run with only 64megs ram.. lol not to mention i'd have to copy it there every boot..]

but for now i think i'll try loading gbpvr itself from the network...Big Grin
may have some batch file issues on net drives but i won't be installing many plugins, if any..

am going to install dscaler as my mpeg2decoder, will have to make seperate plugins for remotes tho..[so you can select yours at build time]
i'll probably just make irremote/pvr150/500 and a MCE remote plugin for now..

and probably a plugin to configure the remote server addresses and any other custom stuff for your setup at build time as well...

so with the plugin setup to select your particular hardware/net options, should be usable and easily comstomizable for the average user..Smile

all in due time, won't start working on that till it's actualy running stably..

oh and ms ADO isn't working quite right...do i need it Sub?
or WMI?

too cool! lol

Behind the scenes .NET's database access uses ADO.NET. I dont whether the install of ADO is required to support this or not.

WMI is used on the System screen to determine how much disk space is available/used.

yea, thought so...i think there is a workaround for the ADO thing and it seems to be working ok with database access so far...Smile got into the recordings screen ok and recordings all showed...
i still need to integrate a mpeg2decoder so i'll be able to play stuff but so far so good, most of the screens come up,even youtube...lol

the guide won't come up tho, keeps saying i don't have channels setup..
any ideas?

[need to put back ffdshow for most of the codecs, and turn back on the swap drive as i'm running out of mem on test machine with only 256 meg..]
may be the reason the channels don't show, out of mem..

startup is a bit slow cuz .net is loading off dvd, but only during startup..

finally figured out network access off shares in PE, so will make a script to connect the drives...

so coming along nicely...moved from vmware to a real machine for performance issues and playback with directx...

it started up timeshift fine but blank screen as i don't have a decoder yet...hehe... that's next..

all we'd have to distribute is a few plugins, and maybe a pre-setup gbpvr client install...and instructions on where to get bartpe and build it all..
was wondering if that would be ok with sub...that way users wouldn't have to setup a machine and a fresh client install just to use for this...

nice thing about using a local hard drive for gbpvr is, most plugins should work and batches and any temp stuff and speed...Smile
but i'd like to make it cd/dvd only if possible..
network loading works but is Really slow...and most machines will have some sort of hard drive....[since it's not very big and isn't installed into that drive's windows, won't interfere with installed windows, nor be messed up if you mess up your windows..]

will let ya know how it goes..

cool, video playback is working with dscaler codecs, and i even started live timeshift tv from a server with wdm software recorder sources! lol Smile
[in vmware no less! lol]

but i'm still having the tvguide problem with channels...Sad
any thoughts?

i have a plugin for wmi but not sure if it's totally working, nothing at all shows on system screen, tho i can get into settings...
i think maybe because wmi is running from cdrom..
seems like the ado fix is working tho..

but the hard stuff is working...the main playback/tv functions..
i'll check to see if tv-listings works as a temp measure...

sub, let me know if you have any thoughts and i'll try to shoot you a clean set of logs with the problem...

if you stick with the blue skin it's only 35MB (if that really matters, better stop Wink)
about copying: zip the content to disc & start from there. unzipping it from disk to ramdrive should be way faster than copying all these small files from disk

right now for testing i'm just running it from a hard drive while booting from the cdrom.. so should be even more compatible...
so i'm not sure why the guide would be giving me problems as it seems all the db stuff is working fine...
and i can watch tv and change channels, but not bring up live guide nor regular tvguide..always says no channles setup..Sad
i really need to get more mem in test machine...lol

oh and sub, as a second request, could you make the config.xml location also configurable, say with registry entry? then config changes could be persistant..
am thinking it would always need to be writable cuz of changes makeable in system settings screen..
.....on a related note, i've noticed you can save changes to config.xml in any directory by changing current dir in another program after starting config, then hitting ok in config will save it to whereever you were in other program...
not changing the original config.xml in the process...
not a common thing to happen, but it weirded my machine out when it created one in the system32 dir...some settings were getting picked up from there and some from gbpvr dir...[probably cuz it is in path]
it may only happen from same program that starts config tho..
just thought you might like to know, cuz will give strange results for users and locking it down may be an answer...

almost totally functional now, just the guide...?!? Sad

Sorry, that one wouldnt be so easy. There is a lot of stuff that depends on it being in the GB-PVR directory.

hmmm, seems like the tvguide is choking on creating the db locks, i think it's trying to create them on %systemroot% which is readonly in this case..
[not the gbpvr dir which is writable]

is there any way to make the db temps in another dir?
would that be handled by sqlite directly? should i look there at it's options?

here's the bit of log related to the guide problem..
Code:
1/29/2007 10:14:47 AM.656    ERROR    [1]    Failed to locate requested recording source: SoftwareRecorder.SoftwareRecorder
1/29/2007 10:14:47 AM.656    ERROR    [1]    Error loading CaptureSource: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

at least to me it looks like a database temp error...any ideas?

i did find the PRAGMA temp_store_directory = 'directory-name'; command for sqlite...i'll try and see what i come up with...
that shold be the last peice of the puzzle...everything else seems to work...Smile

I'm not aware of any options for configuring this type of stuff. It happens behind the scenes in SQLite.

I would have though everything required would be done on gbpvr.db3 though, including any locking.

Are you sure that file isnt read-only, or something similar?

hmmm,is there any way to set a pragma command for the database on opening?
seems the pragma command to store temps has to be used before each open of the database...so if i do it outside of gbpvr it doesn't effect gbpvr accesses...

it may be able to be changed within the database structure itself...
it says by default it's supposed to write the files to the userprofile's temp dir and i have that setup but it doesn't seem to be using it..
i'll try changing the actual database schema so see if i can't put them in current dir for all accesses...which shouldn't be a problem even for the other users of the db...
[all locks and journals and temps should be in same place for that db]

i think it's actually just the indices creation that is creating he problem...
Recordings comes up fine...all files/info are there and playable...
