I had a problem with mencoder too, so I tried retime.bat, only to have it report long strings of errors during the recoding process, and a broken output mpg file together with a final error message suggesting I try a different mux rate. There doesn't seem to be an option to do this using the programs that retime.bat calls, so this is unhelpful.

Any thoughts, please?

Thanks.

I've used MEncoder, Like explained earlier, FFmpeg and ReTime.bat to reencode the time lines of shows...

I suppose its depending on the timeline problem whether one will work over another. I have MENcoder work and not work etc...

More consistently, ReTime.bat has done the best job. If you are having trouble with ReTime.bat, I suggest getting it to work. What are the strings of errors?

The errors occur after the main part of the multiplexing process, when the audio and video are being recombined: "video DTS underflow xxxxxx ms at pack xxxxx ms by xxx ms." Hundreds of those...

PS: the disk size of the input file is approaching 16GB (even tough it's only 3hrs long!). Could this be part of the problem?

That's not healthy at all... Might have to look at what you are transcoding, and what command lines you are using...

What country, language, etc...

Why was your video file corrupted in the first place? Was it the PVR150 Timestamp issue?

Yeah it was the timestamp issue I was trying to resolve. The file was probably that big because, if I'm never going to burn off a recording to DVD (max bitrate 9.2MBit/sec I think), I whack up the bit rate to 12Mbit/sec to get max PQ. This was one such.

However, I have since, in my messing about with the file, managed to corrupt the original which became totally unplayable so it's now deleted. I'm hoping the problem's gone away now that I've installed the registry fixes...

The registry fixes from the timestamp issue will only fix future recordings. If your file is corrupted too much, it might be too far gone
