what is easiest route to hdtv

Nope its your pc, the BBCHD broadcast uses h.264 which is alot more hungry cpu wise for playback. You need a dual core processor before the playback becomes more smooth even then some people are reporting problems. Also most of the BBCHD content is 1080i/p stuff, I record my stuff then re-encode to mpeg2 at 720p as my cpu is only a 2ghz duron. This playsback fine but obviously the re-encoding takes time.

That's interesting. So is there any easy way I can set it up to auto re-encode to mpeg2 anything recorded on that channel only?

Also, am I right in saying there is only one HD channel now? I'm sure a few months back there used to be several (BBC1,BBC2, Chan 5)?

Possibly you mis-interpreted Stefan's post. He was referring to the numerous problems that people have experienced with ffdshow & gbpvr in the past and making an ironic observation of the fact that ffdshow might actually be part of the solution in this case.

gED is right. That is exactly what I was trying to do. As I've said in the past (which you can't know, of course), English is not my first language, so I probably miss out on the nuances of irony when I write. Which is also probably the reason why I don't understand what you mean by "expetive".

CoreAVC works for me and I can view BBCHD from within GB-PVR. Pretty choppy but I think that's the signal rather than my machine (it's an A64 3500).

If its the default H.264 decoder on your machine, then it'll be automatically used when you play back a recording.

You can check what decoders where used by starting playback then viewing gbpvr.exe-native.log.

Something in the postprocessing.bat file? Maybe the Zprocess utility, but I'm not too familiar with it.

BTW, I thought stefan's post was dead on - what you are doing is usually the other way around

thanks sub but i wasn't referring to playing back the file, - recording and playback now work fine. i was referring to 'watch' from the tv guide or 'live'. And yes, gbpvr.exe-native.log shows core as the default H.264 decoder.

I chose my words carefully. I suspect you'd currently need the Cyberlink H.264 if you wanted to watch live tv with the BBC HD Trial.
