Sweet. That helps alot. I can run VLC from the command line and -maybe- see something. Here's the log. Appreciate the help.

I ran the VLC command line adding :-vvv --extraintf=logger

I posted the log file.

Hmmmm.....if it plays fine when you open it in native VLC but dumps out when you use vlc to stream perhaps the streaming engine can not handle the file type in the transcode to stream.....here is a chart of what VLC can handle as a stream input......

Have you tried using a different output type....i.e. mpeg rather than mp4?

Also...are you using the native vlc encoder or did you set it to h264....see my settings below.....

Ok....it has to be something in the ability for VLC to stream this file....if I recall you indicated if you open the file with VLC it plays.....it just fails when you stream....correct?

Here you can see where it is finding bad data that it doesn't like.....this could be beacuse VLC can not transcode from the input type to the output type. Here is a list of what VLC can take as an input and stream.

Does this occur on all files your tried? Have you tried an MPEG file vs. the avi?

It happens only on files I try to "stream" from a channel. If it's an existing file, it works. (like from video archives).

I wanted to try and change the output file type that the "recording" generates, but I don't know how. That might be a clue to getting VLC to like the stream.

So this issue is only occuring when you try to stream a live TV broadcast....correct?

I don't think I knew that you could record a .avi file with GBPVR......do you have an auto transcode option set or something that is converting recordings to AVI automagically?

When you stream you actually initiate a recoding to start right now on the selected channel......VLC is then passed the filename of the recording so that it can be streamed......perhaps what is happening is that there is not enough of the recorded file for VLC to stream.....meaining the VLC stream runs out of native file and has nothing left to do......which would make sense given that the vlc.log file indiacates EOF reached.......

Try this to verify this theory.....in Details.aspx.cs

Change the 5000 line of code to 30000....this is the forced wait from the time the show is initiated to record until the player pop-up is launched...this will give 30 seconds instead of 5 seconds:
Code:
if (scheduleReturn)
                {
                    Thread.Sleep(5000);

Yes.

No, I don't. The filename is .avi. After the file is "closed" I can see it's a divx. While the stream is being written, nothing seems to understand the codec (which gspot says is MPEG4) Maybe this is realated to the issue.
Could you paste your your config? I realize it's much different than my own, but I can compare differences.

For kicks, I did try it. No luck. In essence, I had tried this already by running VLC from the command line (ripped from the web log file)

Got it!

I edited my capture device, and changed the compression from MPEG4 (divx) to MPEG2. MPEG4(divx) cannot be correctly streamed.

Thanks so much for helping me with this. I have a much better understanding of the inner workings now.
