The play nice settings go in the comskip.ini file. As you probably could see it's in military time and it lowers the process priority. I don't think they are there by default, so if you want them, add them.
My Celeron isn't very fast so it never keeps up with live tv and always uses a big hunk of the CPU. Erik made a good point in that if your system can keep up with livetv then the new release will lower the CPU. If you run in post processing mode it will still use whatever it can, just for less time.

So the start and end times in military time indicate when it will use less process time? If I wanted to 'play nice' 24 hours a day, it would be 0000 to 2400 ?

I'm not sure if 0 to 2400 works or not. Probably does. You could make it 2359 if it doesn't.
I'm not sure how the windows scheduler works but in general lowering the process priority tells the scheduler to run other more important processes first and gives a smaller timeslice to a lower process priority. The end result is that there is more time for higher priority processes to run.

Hi,

I've been using comskip for just over a year (via post processing) with the default settings. And I am 99% happy with these after hundreds of different shows. I also use comcut and then automatically delete the original mpegs.

The only time comskip has had a false positive is during some sports shows where they cut to a highlight sequence with no channel logo... sometimes it mistakes these as commercials, but I can see why.

However, sometimes the intro and end credits get cut off - specifically, The Simpsons intro sequence and The Office final credits joke are always missing from my recordings. This is not a recording time issue - the original mpegs are fine.

Is there an easy way to buffer comskip so it wouldn't do this?

Not a direct solution, but if you run comkskip and don't run comcut and then enable automatic commercial skipping you will have something similar to what you have now. You can always toggle the automatic skipping off with 999 and then watch the end of your show if it misses up the detect.

Sorry - but this is a deal breaker. I don't want 1//3 of my hardrive filled with advertising. Also when I give mpegs or make dvds for people (don't tell the FBI) it saves a lot of hassle, and adds a lot of cool factor when the commercials are already gone.

Pastro can you post your comskip.ini since you're in USA and what percent ratio are you getting?

Mine is the default comskip.ini except for the play nice stuff I already posted. I get pretty good results with this, but it really is source dependent. The kids programs on Disney, ABC family, and Nick are perfect. I don't really have a good number I can quote that says how good it does overall. Some shows/networks give it fits.

Ok, I thought that might have been an issue, but just in case you didn't know about the 999 trick I posted it.
Yes you can rewind into it and it won't skip back out.

I just stop using it because is had screw-up the timeline on my recordings. Even if I removed the *.txt files the recorded media doesn't ff/rw skip right.

I find this hard to believe, as comskip does nothing to your recording. Unless you are using comclean or whatever.
