1.what version gbpvr are you using? -1.016
2.are you using pvrx2? - yes
3.what nvidia card you use ? 6200 passively cooled (great card for the pennies it cost!)
4.what version driver are you using ? 162.18
5.what mpeg decoder do you use? Nvida Purevideo
6.are your panning shots smooth ? Yes!!!

Just got my system nailed using the -FSE switch- thanks very much. This is the first time I have got pvrx2 working well enough to use and the first time I have been able to use anything other than overlay mode with GBPVR.
I must admit, my GBPVR setup has not been working well since the latest upgrades recently, but I haven't really had enough time to play.

All I have to deal with now is:

I get a black screen with a mouse cursor when the machine comes out of hibernation.

Sound seems to de-synch very frequently.

I often get a "no signal" message in front of a perfectly working TV picture from time to time (patch didn't seem to work for me??!)

When dropping back to desktop, the screen does not redraw properly- I get a weird grey gauze over the desktop, or the GBPVR screen stays drawn after it has closed.

One of my muxes has vanished!!

However, the main thing is that I have dead smooth DVD and liveTV + the new interface is dead slick. I reckon by the time that Freeview goes full power in the UK, I will ditch Sky and have freeview only (as long as it hasn't become quizz and shopping channels only by then).

99.12
No
6600 (Vanilla, non-GT)
162.18
nVidia Purevideo
Yes

This is my biggest gripe with the TV output from my HTPC:

I'm using the basic composite cable to feed the video signal from my video cards breakout box to an RF-encoder, which then feeds the signal to my TV and the picture is just too dark. When I switch from "Live TV" in GB-PVR to Live TV from my set top box, the STB looks much brighter and clearer in general. This drives me nuts as I have spent hours adjusting settings in the nVidia driver control panel as well as the Purevideo settings and I just can't get it to look as good. This is nVidia's fault, IMO and goes to show the lacking TV support that they have. Perhaps the real problem lies in the fact that I'm using a TV that doesn't support component in.

So far it would seem to get good playback with the pvrx2 10016 with a nvidia card
the fse is the ticket (much improved video panning shots)
and less jumps at strange times
to make this happen (in XP/mce/pro)
you need to create a short cut for pvrx2.exe
open properties
where it says target add -fse to the end
so it looks like this "C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\PVRX2.exe" -fse

personally i use an older video driver (81.98)as with the new nvidia drivers you cannot add the frequency output that you might want
in my case i wanted 100hz i beleive this is important to smooth video playback

i also use purevideo as this gives me the best results
lip sync is pretty close to perfect 99% of the time
and the audio out come from the right speakers i found alot of others didnt give me this result
the downside of using fse is that you cant bring up the control panel to adjust colours while playing but to do this you just start from the original start up short cut (non fse)

this is not the end just an update of what i have found so if you have had other results post them and i will try them

cheers Stu

NVIDIA drivers only just out, still experimenting with new kit & building new PVR PC. -fse on pvrx2 does seem to smooth things out a little more, i might be imagining it.

1. I am using 1.0.016
2. Yes, but I am also using the old version when I want to access plugins that are not updated for 1.016 yet.
3. nvidea geforce4 TI 4600
4. 6.1.7.2
5. Cyberlink videoSP or Nero Video but I also have sytem default and Intervideo nonCSS. So far, I am getting a good playback and livetv on both mpeg decoders.
6. In both Live TV and recordings, the shows display as nicely as they do on the TV without using gbpbr. I only get stuttering sometimes, and that is usually when I have used up more than 2/3 of my 150 hard drive.
7. You didn't ask but I have a toshiba flat screen CRT tv

yeah good point on the type of tv
but i thought that was enough questions to get an idea
then there is
pal or ntsc,
resolution
connection/digital /analog
interlaced or progressive

another thing i noticed last night is now my american programs run good
but i was watching an english/british program last night and some tearing was evident still not to bad
so many different ways the programs are finalised(interlacing etc) before broadcast/sold

cheers stu

Look like we are getting a bit of a concensus here - FSE seems to give the best performance for the new PVRX2, and in my case for 99.12.
By best performance I mean no juddering and no tearing / vertical lines.
So now I wonder if the well known bugs using FSE will be ironed out?

The ones I can think of are:
1. Menus behave differently in FSE - if you have video or TV displayed inset, then selecting guide does not work - it just makes the video full-screen. You have to stop TV or video before it will work. This behaviour also seems to effect any menu page that does not have a small video inset - for example the weather plugin.
2. Resume from standby or hibernate does not work in FSE - the resume-fix patch worked for VMR-9 custom but not FSE.
3. Sometimes when you exit GBPVR the screen is not refreshed so you can't see the desktop.
(Actually I worked around this by setting the green power button on my remote to start GB-PVR. When it happens I just start gbpvr again and then exit, and I then get the desktop back. Now I am using reschanger with gbpvr it is not a problem anyway as the change of screen res also solves the problem)
4. DVD menus do not work correctly - When the disk menu loads up you cannot see which option is highlighted. Pressing OK does play the DVD but you cannot select other options, unless you use trial and error guessing by using the arrow keys and OK button.

fse seems to be alot better than when i have used it previously with 99.xx im using 10016 now but that might be just cause the video is so much better
point number three is a problem if its not a dedicated pvr but mine isnt i have a laptop for everything i do or just press the show desktop button fixes it aswell

hzwaal Wrote:1) Every few days, the TV settings go back to M/NTSC (typically after a reboot or resume). The only way to get a viewable TV out back is to remotely connect to my PC with VNC and manually set it back to B/PAL. I have the latest WHQL certified driver installed, and my regional settings are OK (Netherlands), so I really do not understand how this driver can be WHQL certified if it does not automatically understand that PAL is the standard in the Netherlands. The fact that it spontaneously resets to NTSC is inexcusable.

After contacting nVidia about my problems, they suggested I try the 84.21 version of the driver . So I did and the resetting to NTSC problem is indeed gone, but video playback using PVRX2 was severely corrupted. I got vertical black or white stripes over the video image. I tried several decoders (InterVideo and PureVideo 196 and 223), but they all give more or less the same result. Then I noticed that GBPVR did give a proper video output. This is likely because I configured it to use VMR9, whereas PVRX2 uses the VMR9 Custom mode. I tried configuring the VMR9 Full Screen Exclusive mode, but to no avail. Fortunately, starting PVRX2 with the -fse switch does give a normal video output, so I'm using that for a moment.

The other problems I mentioned are as yet unsolved and I'm awaiting further suggestions from nVidia.
