I have attached a zip file which contains the 2 log files you requested and some screenshots showing 2 different formats displayed on different channels and my settings page of the config file. I reinstated Nvidia to use so I could make sure I wasn't using system default.

Excuse the other things on the screen as I do not keep my HTPC with a keyboard and mouse attached so it took a bit of doing to get screenshots.

Based on your screenshots, I suspect you need to either switch to VMR9 Custom, or install the Microsoft patch mentioned in the '1.1.5 survival guide' thread: http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=2...ostcount=5

I both installed the patch and tried it out and changed to VMR9custom and tried it and neither changes resulted in any difference.

Still at least 3 different formats displaying.

Can you repeat the same test as before, and post the logs and screenshots again, but make sure you're using VMR9 Custom?

EVR does have some problems on XP, so I'd rather take this out of the equation. I can see you are having some of these EVR problems because of the tell tale sign of the blue OSD info not being the full width of the window. When things are running correctly, the OSD will fill the window regardless of where the video is placed.

Also, if you're using the nvidia decoder, make sure it is set to the anamorphic aspect ratio setting, otherwise it can cause similar problem.

switch to vmr custom for testing and see if the nvidia icon comes up(only when playing mpeg video in task bar by clock )

also can you post your specs for your computer aswell as the tv and what connection to the tv

Nvidia is showing in the taskbar although as Sub requested I have changed from system default for the time being.

My system specs are as follows.

CPU:AMD 64bit Athlon 4000+ AM2 Dual Core 2.1GHzx2 1MB L2
Graphic card:ATI Radeon 256MB Geforce X1250 onboard
MOBO:ASUS M2A-VM HDMI AMD690G Motherboard
Windows xp with SP2
Using GBPVR 10105
I have installed as codecs ffdshow_beta3_rev1324_20070701_clsid.exe and MatroskaSplitter.exe and nvidia purevideo.

Thanks for your help

Sure can. Here they are again. Still with bars on the sides and stratos I think it was displays in the center of the screen. 2 of them display full screen.

That looks worlds better than your last screenshots, and much more like I'd expect to see. You'll probably find any black bars that are remaining are part of the actual transmission. ie, if you looked at each frame of the 720x576 video, a certain number of pixels are black. They often do this because most TVs have a small amount of overscan, which pushes the black bar off the side of the screen, leaving the majority of the picture visible. You can probably remove this by tweaking the <HorizontalZoom> setting config.xml.

(My development machine is down at the moment, so unfortunately I cant check for you right now)

At times you'd expect to see significant black bars on the left/right, when 4:3 video is being broadcast. Those are much more noticable than these black bars though.

Alright. So is that about the best I can expect? IS there no way to auto stretch it alittle more to the actual screen size?

I suppose seeing as the black bars are actually part of the transmission there is no way to automatically stretch the image to fit your screen.

Is the only solution to set up a button on the hauppauge remote to zoom?

What is the hardware solution used to prevent this? I also use an external stb and it does not have this problem and displays all transmissions full screen.

You should be able to bump the <HorizontalZoom> setting up in config.xml to fix it. Normally set top boxes and tv's overscan slightly, so you dont normally see the extreme edges of the picture.

If my machine was up and running, I'd tune these same stations to take a look and confirm for you.

GB-PVR is stretching the transmission to fit your screen, but unfortunately the transmission contains black edges, so you end up seeing them.

So the digital broadcast is to blame? For instance TVNZ6 changes aspects from ads to programs and so on. I can be watching it in fullscreen and then when the ads come on it changes aspects and then when it comes back it has bars on the side.
Is that normal and all to do with the broadcasters signal?
