Do the same thing in the GBPVR.exe system screen, then post the GBPVR.exe.log.

Be warned though, if any problem is found and fixed, I'll only be providing a fix in the current release and only for the PVRX2.exe executable.

Sorry, I now that I check the logs, I dont GBPVR.exe can give the info I need from the System->Update EPG function.

Can you try pressing the 'Update EPG' function in one of your capture sources in the config app, then zip and attach the config.exe.log?

ok here's the other log. i've seen some DB locked errors. i normally don't see them but it might explain why sometimes you can't schedule a new recording? on the other hand yesterday i did a "empty EPG", removed all channels from both sources and then reloaded, remapped channels and rescheduled all recordings (thus missing that one recording of the simpsons on channel 2.1) - so it's strange that only SOME recordings did not schedule properly. i would expect if the DB is locked that ALL recordings would not schedule.

the other thing i've noticed is this:

does this mean it should record ALL episodes (regardless of duplicates already in my archive or already scheduled?)

oh hey look at that!
the first simpsons episode at 11pm is found and wants to schedule (and fails), then the DB is locked, then the service is restarted, then the episode at 11:30pm is scheduled (and it succeeds)

the successful one is the simpsons episode on sun/06 jan channel 50.1 at 11:30pm! and it's scheduled now! but the one just before it (at 11 pm) is still NOT scheduled.

This problem is the most likely cause of your problems. I dont think its worth wasting anymore time looking into though until you upgrade to the current release. There have been a couple of things fixed over the last year that could result in database locking problems.

i see. would you recommend that i create a new DB from the empty.db3 and import all my programs? or would that just be a waste of time?

I think it'd be better to investigate the problem on 1.1.5 if you still have it after upgrading.

ok i'll keep the DB and look into an upgrade these next few days. i'm assuming version 1+ is much more improved than the one i'm using

i'll let you know if i get the same issues with version 1+.
