Interesting. I knew about CGMS-A but did not know that it was tied to the software and not the format. I will have to try recording from GB-PVR to DVR-MS and see what happens.

Is it possible to change the amount of time displayed in the guide? I can handle modifying the skin file but I found a post in 2006 from sub saying that it was locked at 2 hours. Is that still the case?

Yes unfortunately, but I hope to remove that limitation in the near future.

Do you have any recommendations for a good skin to use on a 25" TV? I didn't realize it at the time but all my initial testing was done on our projector which looks great. But when I moved it to the TV I couldn't read the guide. I tried bumping up the font size in the default skin and that helped a little but now things are a bit cramped. I went back to Media Center and it looks just fine. But they are using bigger fonts, single lines per channel, more spacing between channels and are only showing 1.5 hours instead of 2. I'm thinking just that last change could make the guide easier to read on smaller screens.

When you highlight something in the guide, the description is displayed at the bottom of the screen. I haven't found it yet, but is there a way to adjust the font size there as well? Same question goes for the OSD that is displayed when you're changing channels.

Jaggy's Blue-Retro-SHV skin is designed for smaller TVs...

There are some plugins which it does not handle...

Try...
delete the contents of the ...\skin2\Blue-Retro-SHV folder
copy the contents of the ...\skin2\blue folder into ...\skin2\Blue-Retro-SHV
install Blue-Retro-SHV

you should follow the same steps for the ...\skin\Blue-Retro-SHV folder...

Thanks ACTCMS. I'll give that a try.

On an unrelated note, I have done everything I can think of to receive e-mail notifications of replies to this thread. So far I have only received a couple e-mails but there have been a lot of replies. Am I doing something wrong?

Settings is a new screen/plugin in the 1.2.9 release of GB & as the current release of my skin doesn't know about it yet it will cause GB to crash.

I am currently working on the update of the Blue-Retro-SHV skin for 1.2.9 release of GB & should have it on the wiki this weekend or early next week all going to plan Smile

I don't know what the details are, but I've been using Media Center's lowest quality recording setting and the picture quality is good enough for me when looking at the file size. I have been trying to achieve something similar with GB-PVR but have had no luck so far. I'm assuming that since the core video format in DVR-MS files is still an MPG, I should be able to achieve similar results, right? I have been going into the Config and editting the Custom 1 profile on my capture cards. Then I'll go record something and specify Custom 1. However, it seems to be ignoring something somewhere. I have configured Custom 1 to record at the lowest resolution (320 x 240 I believe) and a constant bitrate of 2500. I left the audio settings at the default. When I open up the recorded file, it is still at 720 x 480. Am I doing something wrong?
