mvallevand Wrote:sub, as a wishlist item if GBPVR made a reply to a tftp request for dongle.bin.config like it does for the .ver file with

mvpmc --startup emulation --emulate ? &

It could be done with zero config.

I havnt tested it, but you can give this a try. It should do it.

I can't seem to get it to work, partially because I told you the wrong syntax it is --startup emulate but there is an error too.

Code:

2008-07-16 21:35:27.171    VERBOSE    [4]    Sent dongle.bin.config: mvpmc --startup emulation --emulate 172.16.3.2 &

Do you know if the command line made it to mvpmc?

(here is one that does "mvpmc --startup emulate --emulate ? &")

It doesn't get the file

Code:
2008-07-16 22:07:54.850    VERBOSE    [4]    Sent dongle block 7080
2008-07-16 22:07:54.871    VERBOSE    [4]    Last block 7090

2008-07-16 22:08:19.364    VERBOSE    [4]    Received MVP TFTP request: dongle.bin.config
2008-07-16 22:08:19.372    VERBOSE    [4]    Sent dongle.bin.config: mvpmc --startup emulate --emulate 172.16.3.2 &
2008-07-16 22:08:24.375    ERROR    [4]    MVP TFTP thread caught an exception: System.IndexOutOfRangeException: Index was outside the bounds of the array.
   at GBPVRX2.MVP.MvpServiceLocator.TFTPWorkerThread()

The same error sequence starts when I try from mvpmc manually with

# tftp -g -l test -r dongle.bin.config 172.16.3.2 16869

The gbpvr Config has an uncategorical warning that the default dongle is not compatible with Vista. I'm now running Vista-64bit, gbpvr, and 3 MediaMVPs with the default dongle -- seemingly satisfactorily after just a couple of hours. I'll eventually want to try mvpmc anyway because of its ability to wake the server via Wake-On-LAN, but I have other things I'd rather tackle first. So I'd like to have some idea of how the Vista 'incompatibility' manifests itself so I know whether to push this issue to the top of my list to avoid a potential WAF hit.

Can someone please explain what this incompatibilitiy is (or are) so I'll recognize it when/if it occurs. And if it's potentially bad enough I'll start down the mvpmc path now rather than wait.

Thanks ... Bob

On vista the remote can stop working and video playback can experience long unexpected pauses.

If its working fine for you though, then you're ok to keep using it. Personally I'd use the mvpmc dongle.

Sub, Martin,
I thought I saw my first glimpses of MVP remote glitchiness with Vista, so I went to prepare to tackle mvpmc and the .config file, emulate strings, WOL, shared drive, etc., and discovered that you've already made all of this 'automagic'. I just loaded the latest mvpmc dongle, told Config to use it, and everything worked like a dream. The MVP now seems quicker to startup, and my sleeping gbpvr server wakes reliably.
THANK YOU for all you do.

Cheers .... Bob

P.S.: I wonder how many tons of CO2 emissions per year you saved with all the gbpvr servers that can now spend a lot of time sleeping instead of sucking watts.

Now, there's a thought for a new income stream, guys! Any offers for the carbon credits????
