Shutdown after record

I can't understand your need for this? Windows itself will shutdown the machine after a selected number of minutes after a recording has finished if you so wish.

I used to use grabbit as a usenet client and it had a "shutdown after download" option - but it drove me round the bend shutting down while I was using the machine - or worse while it was recording something. It is vastly more usable letting the operating system decide when the machine is no longer in use.

Is your set up with the power saving option automatically aware of when you set a recording? So that it knows when to engage the 10 min. flag before shutting down?

If not then it is not what I'm looking for. I'm looking for an option that just automatically knows when a scheduled recording is complete and therefore shuts down the system. If your set up does provide what I've described then great! Describe it to me.

While it "drove you around the bend" that a shutdown would occur while the machine was still in use that is a non issue for me. It is a personal preference that you have chosen the setup you did because of the problems you were encountering.

My situation is that I typically schedule different recordings to occur throughout the day. I am at work when these recordings take place so I am definitely not using the pc during this time. It would be nice to have a "smart" option that knows when the last recording will stop and then shutdown the pc from there.

Again I have never been driven around the bend with the pc shutting down on me as I was using it because I only record while I'm at work and the pc is not in use other than for GBPVR.

Anyway, Sub has already stated that he will not include this feature in the software so I'm looking into plugins.

After looking at the source code for the shutdown plugin I see that it already has the framework in place to achieve what I've described.

To add to this, if the option that you use is the "turn of hard disks" or "hibernate" option this does not work on my system. I did have that option on at one time but since sp3 on xp I have nothing but issues on my system when it is enabled.

All you have to do is set windows power saving to go into hibernate (or shutdown) after 5 minutes. (you need to verify that windows can wake your machine from shutdown if you decide not to use hibernate).
You will have to set the option in 'advanced' to not require a password when waking up.

When gbpvr is recording it tells Windows to stay awake. When the recording has finished gbpvr will no longer tell windows to stay awake so it will shutdown in the period specified.

gbpvr will also give windows a list of todays "time to wake up" so that it will wake up a few minutes before a recording is due

I just spotted your additional post that your machine won't hibernate. So the normal method that most others use won't work, sorry.

If you only have a single tuner, you can add a standy/hibernate command to devnz\gbpvr\postprocessing.bat. (I belive a full shutdown will prevent the pc from waking up again to record another show).

But what if you have two recordings following each other? ISTR postprocessing runs for each single recording. Again, are you sure Windows can awake your machine from a full shutdown to record a next show? (mine won't, although the keyboard or a WOL packet will).

You;re right Martin, back to back recordings could well be a problem as will shutting down the PC completely.

mpadilla2: When a recording starts, it also runs parallelprocessing.bat. If you know how to write bat files/scripts, it may be possible to track in progress recordings by creating temp files and checking them in postprocess.bat before shutting down the pc.

and just so we are clear: We believe that if you shutdown the pc, it won't wake up again to record the next show.

I don't see a parallelprocessing.bat. is that a standard .bat file included with gbpvr or can I just create one? It's ok for my purposes if the pc is not woken again.
