What operating system and service pack are you running?

I'm asking because though I can play live tv on my client I'm having communication problems when trying to schedule recordings - it lets me schedule them and will even turn them red in the program guide but when the time comes for the recording to record it doesn't.

If I restart the server then it will do the scheduled recordings (for all from that point forward). If I restart the client I have the problem, if I restart the client and then restart the server then the problem is fixed until the client is restarted again.

I've disabled the firewalls as well as added GBPVR's programs as exceptions to the firewalls and even manually opened the ports on the firewalls and still get the same problem with the very same error message you are getting.

I'm running XP Pro Service Pack 3 and I wonder if something in it isn't causing a bug for client/servers as I think the client/server parts of GBPVR were developed under the earlier service packs.

It's frustrating as I'm running the very same motherboard, drivers, etc. in both the client and server and I even loaded the operating systems from the very same disc - they are literally identical in every way, so you'd think they'd be happy with each other!

TTYL,

Steve

yes, the client can definitely get to that location. i navigated to the file and played it from the client over the network using vlc. it opened and played fine on the client. i am not sure why it has the title it does, but i assumed that was something done automatically by GBPVR. my shares are right as far as i know. all of the directories on the client point to the right directories on the server.

Did you copy and paste that file path, so you're sure its exactly correct?

Other than that, I dont know. It just looks like the path to me.

Its not an XP3 problem. You original problem was either the firewall, or IP address, and was giving the same error SLR was getting. You're past that now. SLR still has either a firewall in the way or machine name wrong.

There are no other firewalls other than the Winblows firewall.

If a machine name is wrong then why would it ever work?

Again, it works if I reboot the server after I reboot the client. Once I reboot the server then every show I schedule after that will work fine. Everything will work fine until . . . I reboot the client. Then things stop until I reboot the server. Once that happens then everything is fine again.

If you post your logs, I'm happy to look. I'm sure there is no general XP SP3 problem though, or we'd have a lot of people problems, including myself on my lounge/bedroom PC.

I've not seen any widespread reports of what you're see, so I have to work on the assumption its something local to your machine, with the same causes we've seen in the past (firewall / server name).

I have been playing with some things, and i have some follow on questions...
I tried switching back to streaming mode now that i changed the server name to its ip address. recorded shows and live tv will now play, but they skip and stutter. they both will play, but not in a usable way. when in file share mode i still cannot play live tv at all, but recoded shows play fine. any ideas why this would be? why would it at least try to play live tv in streaming, but not fileshare? if i could get the streaming to work right, it would solve my problems.

Same here.

Can't make gbpvr to capture the content from 1212 HD PVR.

The totalmedia theater can play & record the FIOS TV just fine.

Are you talking about just recording from your HD-PVR, or streaming across a network to a client PC?
