I have tried different antennas, reinstalled the wintv software. I did a rescan on the channels, and it found none. What the $%*(&@ and I doing wrong?!? It was working, and now it has just stopped.

So I guess a warning to everyone considering buying a HVR-1600. Your digital tuner can stop finding channels for some unknown reason and the only way to fix it is an OS reinstall.

Dose anyone know how to fix this problem beside a reinstall of the OS? 'Cause it sure as heck looks like I am suffering from the same problem.

Try disconnecting your antenna cable from the card, shutdown your PC and disconnect the power cable. Wait about 10-15 seconds, then reconnect the power and antenna cable, and reboot.

Tried that more than once. This started very late last night, and I had no idea what was wrong, so I turned everything off and went to bed. Also unplugged everything for over an hour today. (I tore the entertainment cabinet apart and put everything back together - I clean when I get irritated, lol)

I read this on a different forum today:
I lost the ATSC channels on my card. Powering off for a short while (10s of minutes) did NOT fix the problem, but powering off for a long while (1/2 day) did.

The person goes on to say the fix didn't last. However, I recall reading that others have tried this, and it worked longer. So I am gonna unplug it over night. I have also read that swapping card slots help. So I am gonna try that tomorrow first thing before I power it on.

I've also written Hauppauge in hopes that they might have a fix.

I'll report back after I know more.

Unplugging over night and swapping PCI slots worked! Big Grin So I'll know what to do if this happens again. I don't know if it was the overnight unplug, or the PCI swap... I will experiment if this happens again.

Now I am back to my original problem, I can't watch what I record. So far it only happens when I am recording two things at a time. Which ever is recording second, I can't watch till it's done.

I wonder if I should start another thread? I don't think I should, since that's why I started this one - but I'd like to get this fixed by this evening. (Family type people are ready to throw me and the PVR out the window....)

pBS kindly rec'ed this:
ahh, set the mpeg2 decoder in ffdshow to 'libmpeg2' instead of 'libavcodec' as lobavcodec will only show black screen in livetv...[tho recordings are ok]

But I don't know how to do that? I have looked though the settings box beside FFshow, but I haven't found anything close. (I am using the old TV. and it's quite hard to read.)

Did you try other decoders?

Yup, I think I made it though all of them before the card stopped working all together. I am hesitant to go though the list and try them all again, since I don't know why the card stopped working the first time, and changing the decoders might have been the problem.

The best one was 'Inter video Non CSS video decoder' (I think that's what it is called, screen is hard to read) However, I still can't watch one of the other shows that I am recording with that. All the other decoders didn't work for one reason or another. Black screen for live TV, etc...

I am just wondering if someone with a 1600 card can tell me what they are using? I have looked though the Wiki and I can't find anything helpful.

I did see this:
http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Quick...QuickStart
The processes to read a type of file and present it are called encoding and decoding. Most AV files are not immediately viewable without some sort of decoding. Modules used to make AV content viewable are called ‘codec’ (enCOder/DECoder). Choosing and installing the right codec can easily be the most difficult part of installing GB-PVR.

Boy Howdy is this true!

Go to "Start"->"Programs"->"ffdshow"->"Video decoder configuration".

Click on "Codecs" on the left hand side.
Find "MPEG2" in the list.
Click beside it in the "Decoder" column and select "libmpeg2" in the dropdown.
Click "OK" to save.
Start PVRx2

Ahh, I kept going to the area within the GBPVR config menu, it doesn't give me the option to select libmpeg2, only disable and libavcodec.

However, did follow your directions - including the restart of BGPVR, and I can't view anything within GBPVR. No live TV, no recordings (both of which did work before the change.) WinTV is still working fine. I haven't tested the recordings in media player, but I assume they are still working.

So any other ideas?

 It's working!!!! under "Inter video Non CSS video decoder" I can watch live TV, and record on both tuners and watch ether tuner WHILE it's recording! Yah Yah! lol. I did try this, this morning, and it didn't work then. I have no idea what changed - I am just happy, and hope it remains working.

It doesnt matter now since it seems to be working for you, but just so you know... my next comment would have asked which decoders you tried exactly, and would have advised installing some others to try.

Usually when people said they "tried all the decoder", it usually means they tried the two or three problematic ones they already had on their machine, and didnt try any others.

I think there are six in the drop down menu, and I tried each one there. Each one gave me problems (at the time) but the one that is now working gave me the least.

Anyhow, thank you very much! Without this forum I would have never managed to get this working.
