Although newer OS and Service packs are making this bit of advise obsolete, I thought I'd mention the quartz.dll issue. I've had very stable systems and then out of nowhere I had trouble. It was always resolved by fixing the quartz.dll issue...

http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FAQ/Codec#toc6

I have XP Pro SP2 and Windows update keeps wanting to update certain hotfixes. I have to make sure that my quartz.dll is 9.0B and then dissallow any hotfixes that want to update it to 9.0C...

I used to ask 'why?' Now I just reinstall...

Hi Frank. I notice in that link it refers to ATI cards whereas I'm using NVidea7300GT. Would quartz version b still help me?

XP Pro here also, I allow all updates so at SP3 currently. Running a Sempron 2800+ (1.6Ghz) I was running 1GB DDR400 but have just upgraded to 2GB DDR400.

i would look up decoders and codecs in this forum to get some examples of good ones but i think a lot of people use ffdshow
I think you just need to look around and download and install some of these codecs
then test them out on your pvrx2
did u install all of subs patches off the survival guide? (i assume you're using 1.3.11)

I have heard that the issue is more general. Try it. It won't hurt and can easily be changed back
