Alrighty. I'm new to GBPVR, but it seems well within the realm of my experience so I decided to giver 'er a try after getting slightly frustrated w/ the interface for Mediaportal. After the troubleshooting to first get a reliable xmltv EPG solution and then finding out my HDhomerun needs a little bit longer dwell time when scanning channels, GBPVR seemed to work just fine. I thought "great!" I then went to try some other settings (like encoder/decoder choices) and now when I try to watch live TV, it pops up with the channel and program info on the bottom but no video and after about 1.5seconds of sound, the program crashes. I've done enough fiddling (deleting/uninstalling/installing from scratch) that now I'm beginning to think the small window of proper operation was the fluke.

In the map EPG/digital channel page, I can click on some of the channels in the list on the right and see a preview of the video just fine. There are also some channels that after a few seconds of video preview the program crashes as well. I haven't found anything really identical to my problem in the forums, but then "crash" brings up a lot of unrelated issues.

I've attached the logs from when the preview window crashes, when live tv crashes, and the text file mentioned in the "dr watson-esque" windows crash report. Anything else I should mention to get help get to the bottom of this issue?

I am not REAL good at these, but You have this error in your logs:

Searching the forums with that error comes up with: Check your config... Do you have comskip enabled without having it installed or configured? Are you using TS mux in the BDA Multiplexer? Try unchecking Livetv. Maybe just a reboot will fix you up.

Well, I did see it got checked. But I unchecked it and any other comskip references and the behavior is unchanged. I noticed in the log you posted a message saying the recording service was being shutdown, but after the crash, the GBPVR icon remains green until I or config.exe stops the service. I'm not sure what unchecking LiveTV means...do you mean on the plugins window? Same thing happens when I try and watch a channel through the TVguide. And rebooting doesn't seem to help.

New logs attached. Hopefully there's some helpful info to get further to the bottom of this...

from pvrx2 log
2009-09-15 06:49:38.171 ERROR [1] Unexpected error: System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

make sure you disable (or add exceptions) to any network monitoring tools inc. windows firewall (add exception for gbpvr recording service), NOD32 or Avast web monitoring.

Config, GBPVRRecordingService.exe, & PVRX2 are all in the firewall exceptions. No other network monitoring services are on.

Anything else that could cause that error?

Did GB-PVR crash if you trying to play local video files (some *.TS/*.MPG recording for example)?

Not technically. It seems to have some trouble playing some HD content (.ts file) I recorded w/ Mediaportal, but it doesn't crash. If I try and fast forward too much it freezes, but no crashing.

I think we need to fix why it is crashing during the scan phase and move forward from there.

Have you done a forum search for hdhomerun (I don;t know anything about this device other than it's somewhat different from your regular tv tuner.

This looks potentially interesting

That thread deals with trying not finding channels during scan. lanmat is past that part and now it seems to be crashing when viewing a channel.

That said, I think he should try the MPC filters that are in post 12 of that thread. There is something in the stream that the MainConcept decoder does not like or there is a problem with the decoder.

Edit: attaching the filters to this post.

sorry I must have missed a trick somewhere. In the OP he said

In the map EPG/digital channel page, I can click on some of the channels in the list on the right and see a preview of the video just fine. There are also some channels that after a few seconds of video preview the program crashes as well

and I didn;t see anything that said he had got past this point.

(I was just filling in until you or Sub arrived)
