Google mpeg and pcr for the explanation of how standard time sync works. I think DirectShow uses its own time reference logic too but I never really understood it.

Have you tried the TS muxer? That's as about as raw as you can get it. Anything else repackages the stream and you can experience the problems you mentioned. Plus there's many more tools available to work with ts files than with dvr-ms files.

For my problems it is using the ts mux for HD and I'm not converting anything. I assume being HD that its dropping video frames cause my machine cant quite cope with CoreAVC and 1080i content but cyberlink with HD accel works fine. That said, why Cyberlink doesn't work and ffdshow does with bluray playback I dont know... it seems a bit random what works with what.

I have found that setting forceaudiotimestamp to true (default is false) in config.xml solves all the lipsinc problems that I have no matter what combinations of codecs used - It may cause occassional brief video pauses but lip sinc being out is more annoying.

Lao, I wanted to try that setting and see if it helps my problems... but I don't have that setting in config.xml?

Can you or Sub enlighten us as to what exactly that does? A search of the forums and Google turns up nothing on this switch, and there is no explanation in the config.xml either.

Thanks for replying with the correct setting!

I'd usually leave ForceAudioReferenceClock set to false. Setting to true can cause lip sync issues.

Other than that setting though, lipsync issues typically come down to the decoder and/or audio renderer you're using, so if you have these issues the fix usually involves trying different decoders and audio renderers. Also, start with the audio renderer set to 'system default' rather than any of the other options.

I've seen both, on the playback side and on the recording side. i was using Cyberlink mux until last week when I switched to TS mux.
