I saw this at MaximumPC a few days ago:

http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/sp...it_hits_us

The short version is that it's supposed to launch in the US late this year or early next, but due to competition with other free services already established, they may launch it as a single full-featured "freemium" service rather than a tiered free/premium model as in the US.

So, the wait may soon be over.

Do you need invite? I thought it was free in UK from http://www.spotify.com/en
I wrote that I should PM you an invite but that tip based on a proxy solution that made me posing as a UK resident...

If they have closed the free signups, I'll get one at work tomorrow (I have no invites left myself)

They've gone back to invite-only temporally due to high demand. Thanks in advance, would be great if you could get me an invite Smile

You got an invite.
LOL: "Sudden huge demand" and then they refers to the phone apps. But the phone apps only work with premium accounts and you can always get one of those.

On the other hand, I guess they need to get control of the free accounts when they get more than enough paying costumers now.
And add to that all non UK-residents that got free accounts via proxy...

Oh well. I think it is great and wish them all success. It is a great service!

(The phone app is cool to. You download a playlist and listen to it offline. So you do not need to be online all the time)

After a quick play I'm quite impressed with spotify.

I do wonder if the artists and record companies get much money tho, could this really be the legal replacement for torrenting or not...?

Spotify sweetened the deal by giving the record companies shares in Spotify,
so they are fine.

I have heard some artists that complaining though. One artists thought they were sold out too cheap by the record company.

After running it for nine months, I have songs in playlists that are grayed out. This because they have been pulled back by artists or record companies (but new songs are added all the time, so it doesn't matter much).

Many thanks to 7ore for getting me hooked on Spotify with an invite. I plan on actively looking in to plug-in possibility but before I do is anyone else working on something?
