Does this have something with some deinterlacing issues? I will search more on the topic but the VMR9 FSE fixed the flicker. Thanks

Bad deinterlacing in a high-action scene is often "combing" when it looks like someone took a comb across the screen for a moment and everything looks jagged. That or ghosting.

"Patchy" is probably just low-bitrate problems from the source material/source broadcast. If it's mainly on one channel or during non-primetime shows or whatever, that's probably what it is. And the bigger the screen you're watching it on, the worse it will look.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

Combing is the issue then, better way to describe it because it happens during football on NBC really bad and some shows with high action in HD, such as the opening sequence of CSI, where things move really fast. Anything i can do about this?

Another easy way to look for combing is on a channel with a ticker running across the bottom. The words will look really jagged.

Should just need to mess with the deinterlacing settings. Newer video cards (last couple years) can have some advanced deinterlacing options, but, if nothing else, switch the deinterlacing in whatever software video decoder in GBPVR you are using to "Bob", or try setting it in the video card control panel if it can do it, and see how that goes. Bob may lose a little detail, but it will be far more watchable.

I've had software video decoders not change anything when I changed their deinterlacing settings, I've had video cards not change anything when I changed their deinterlacing settings, I've had the video card set for advanced deinterlacing but its bandwidth couldn't keep up with 1080 HD. It can be annoying.

It can be a bit of a crap-shoot trying to find what works best, but it sounds like you should know what to look for, so start messing with it and hitting buttons, I guess. Smile

You'll probably want to visit 100fps.com for more info.

Is this bob setting in GBPVR or somewhere else. I see a deinteralicing setting in misc1 of the config but the only thing it can be on is encoder pass trhough or else it wont play live tv. I have three codecs installed for video (avivo ati, mpv, and ffshow). Ive read some other posts and it seems to be only the shows that display 1080i, 720p looks fine (i think). Has anyone found a resolution to this?

It makes sense if 720p looks fine since 720p is progressive and not interlaced, and so you're only having problems with the interlaced channels.

FFDshow has built-in software deinterlacers you can use that might do the job. You might have to have the Raw Filter or whatever setting turned on to make sure any FFDshow settings actually affect the video. If you already use FFDshow to upconvert the resolution or sharpen the picture or anything like that, then the Raw Video filter option is already turned on.

But first I'd click on the video decoder tab/button/options inside GBPVR configuration (such as mpv video decoder) and see if changing the setting in there does anything. Your video card/graphics might also have a deinterlacing setting in its control panel you can try to try to get hardware deinterlacing.

I think I've had it where I had to also change that other GBPVR setting you're talking about to get the video decoder setting to do anything. Like I said, it can be a bit of a crap-shoot sometimes, and I haven't messed with mine in awhile.

Some kind of show with a ticker scrolling across the bottom of the screen makes for the best test file. I recorded the local news show with a ticker and used that when testing.
