There are several AGP 4650's and 4670's available, but no low-profile ones that I have found. ASUS has a low-profile AGP HD3450, which *should* be adequate.

Reddwarf,

Can you tell me how to get Directx10 on my XP machine

Thanks

Yep, that's the same card as I have in PCI-E version and I can confirm that it works excellent for HD-viewing.

Don't remember exactly where I downloaded it, but here's the zipfile: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GCS179WB
Use it at your own risk, but as I said earlier it works great for me.

I'm willing to bet the AGP version doesnt work as advertised. That was certainly the case the previous generation, ie PCIe version of ATI HD 2600 Pro worked well, while AGP ATI HD 2600 Pro was a steaming pile of poo. Also, only some version of the ATI driver installers work with AGP cards, and most of them are older versions now.

If the user only has AGP, then I guess its worth trying, but on ATI's track record I think there is a good chance it wont work.

AMD has gotten much better about explicitly supporting the AGP versions with current drivers. They've finally listed the AGP version of each chip on the driver download page, rather than making you hunt for it in the knowledgebase or forums, though the driver itself is still a 'hotfix' version. The driver is current, Catalyst 9.10.

I had the AGP-version earlier, but I changed to a better motherboard that had PCI-E and therfore bought the PCI-E version of the card (my step-son is still running the agp-variant without trouble). But I seems to remember the first version of the agp-driver had some issues which were corrected in a later release.

I've still got an AGP version of the 2600 Pro in a machine here, so I'm talking from first hand experience...

BTW: The 3450 card is in AGP as well, not sure it it is available in lowprofile.

Well there is no need to use DX10 (i think you mean these special version on DX) on WinXP to get DXVA working (h.264 HD too) - nothink will be used from this software. All will work just fine using *unlocked* SAF and use WMR9 FSE - no need to "update"
to Vista/Win7. MY HTPC is WinXP based and all is working great.

You will have MPEG-2 and h.264 aceleration if you use good GPU ATI 4550 for example, i have it too.

Not sure about AGP GPU (if it is capable of DXVA), i known there is lot of problem with them these days, drivers needs to be patched, etc...
