I installed the AC3filter and sound is now working on the laptop.

Unfortunately, the laptop isn't nearly as able to handle the tuner as my desktop. I may have to sell the tuner if I can't get it to work on the 64 bit computer.

I contacted Avermedia and they said I need to get the drivers from Toshiba because it's Toshiba's tuner. Toshiba doesn't support the product because Avermedia made it and you should go to the manufacturer. Sound familiar. The only drivers Toshiba has are for 32 bit OS.

Hopefully, someone else may have an answer on the forum.

I've got that exact tuner, in fact, I think I'm the one who originally posted the bda.ini entry for it. I'm pretty sure that my laptop that it came with was Vista x64 so I should have drivers but I'll double check. I won't be able to check until tomorrow though since I no longer have the laptop in my possession.

Edit: See if this driver works for you: http://www.avermedia-usa.com/AVerTV/Supp...?FDFId=377

Thanks for checking on the drivers.

I did install the driver you listed. I had the same results.

I checked the Toshiba website again. One of the laptops they listed had Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit edition. When I tried to run the driver file, I got the same "This driver is only for 32 bit OS" message and then it aborts.

Are you using that Toshiba tuner now?

Not currently. I'll try to dig it out of storage, I just need to remember where I stored it.

Well, I've tried Avermedia and they say that the tuners are similar, but not the same. Translate....their drivers won't work.

I spoke with Toshiba "tech support" and they had no answer as to why the driver wouldn't install on a 64 bit OS, despite the fact that it listed a Toshiba laptop that came with a 64 bit OS.

Frustrating because I got this to work on my IBM X41 tablet pc, but it only has 1.5 gb RAM a 60 gb hd, and a Pent. M 1.5 ghz processor. The result seems to be somewhat choppy recordings and viewing despite signal strengths being very strong.

Whurlston, if you find the drivers let me know.
Thanks, Gary

The drivers from the Toshiba site may work on 64 bit but they packaged them with WinBatch which is 32 bit only and doesn't work with SysWos64... argh. I'm going to try extracting the drivers on a 32 bit system.

my laptop is a 32 bit system. Is there a way of opening the file without installing the drivers? I've got the laptop working with the tv tuner and don't want to mess up the setup.

How does one know if a driver is for a 32bit or 64 bit system?

Try this driver. I modified the Avermedia x64 driver's inf to recognize the Toshiba tuner's device ID. I still can't find my tuner to test it though (I think I might have given it to someone).

Thanks, I'll give it a try and let you know.

On another note, I noticed that when recording on the laptop the file sizes were huge. Is there a way to record something and keep the file size down to a bit more reasonable size. I'd like to record things for my son to take along when we travel. I did a test record of 10 minutes and the file size was almost 4gb.

You'll get huge files if you've set the multiplexer to 'Full TS'. You should have it set to 'TS Mux' instead.
