Will ParaLED work with USB to Parallel Adapter?

Thanks for the reference.

Since I had to add hardware anyways, I went with adding a parallel port. I need more than the three indications I could get from using a serial link to drive the LEDs. I've come up with 6 things I initially want to indicate with ParaLED and a potential 7th in the future.

so i post my answer to you to this thread:

sorry for the late response, i was kinda busy in the last weeks (more like months ) and did not have much time for GBPVR.

i'm afraid building a USB device is not that trivial (besides the hardware part it would also be necessary to write a driver for windows, etc. - and the parts would cost more of course)... one of the reasons i chose the parallel port back then as it is _very_ easy to do :-)

i once 'designed' a serial port version. and i know for a fact that this one does work with a USB to serial adapter cable.
it requires some more hardware (built arround a PIC controller).
how well do you handle a soldering iron? :-)

Sorry for the problem with the full mailbox. I hadn't been aware of the limits of howm any messages could be saved.

In any event, I am proceeding on two approaches.

I already built the hardware for ParaLED and bought a parallel card. Unfortunately, the card is a PCI card and the software doesn't work with it. I am trying to see if I can make it work.

The second approach is that I have bought an Arduino and will experiment with it to drive the LEds.

For anyone else following this thread: Here is the thread in another forum where I asked about ouptut to a PCI based Parallel port. I post it because if the information learned and for the interesting approaches suggested.
