nPVR and DVD playback using FFDshow Audio and Video decoder = black screen

aha,i got it working for me by unselecting yuy2 and forcing only nv12 output...[used libavcodec and evr on xp]
confirmed by setting back and forth, yuy2 + yv12 = black screen, yv12 only = good...
[yuy2 is always preferred if available, i wish it were the opposite..backwards priority, giving nv12 hardware accell if available, and only going to lesser colorspaces if no hw available]
but that's a ffdshow issue..

Yep, I can confirm I see the same. That gets video working for me. Somehow tied into the subpicture stuff though as mentioned above.

unfortunately, intel onboard video needs yuy2 for acceleration, so that's not good...
maybe an option for separate dvd decoder like old version?
i'll see how my intel boards like this way and report back..
my test a few posts back was on ati card..

No way, NV12 - black screen here. NV12 is default SAF setting for MPEG-2.

Again, no problem in MPC-HC, MediaPortal, even GB-PVR is working...

well in win7 on intel g45 i get nothing on vmr9 but i get same results as before using evr...
so intel good with evr and 7 w/nv12 only..

interestingly enough, i get only the menu highlights with intel on win7 ms decoder and vmr9...no background picture, just the highlight box..and it doesn't work..can't select anything..
it does show the line21 decoder...
with ms decoder and evr, it doesn't show the highlights, but they work..

Guys, please stay on topic.
There are simple rules for renderers:
VMR9 on XP
EVR on Vista/Win7.
Combining DXVA1 renderer and DXVA2 engine is not good idea.

You will have butons highlighted if you use FFDshow on all OS - that is why i trying to get it working. No need for line 21 decoder.
You can try it by yourself - install SAF5, and double click on "Video_ts.ifo" in DVD video folder. It will be played using MPC-HC + FFDShow decoders.

At the end of the day, I dont think NPVR is doing anything wrong. DVD playback consists of about 20 lines of code, just adding the navigator, decoders and render and calling Run(). That said, it may need additional code added to work around specific quirks of certain decoders, like ffdshow - we just have to work out what those quirks are.

Maybe you are right, there was a lot of bugfixed on MediaPortal DVD player until they make it working correctly.

Here is how it should looks like: (NV12 output, higlighted navigation on Win7 (EVR) without Line21 decoder - all is working perfectly.

I suspect it was more a case of lots of workarounds added to make it work with buggy decoders.
