Mikeh49, I'm looking for my WinTV CD, I presume you were referring the section marked "fix"? What I should have mentioned is that I am thinking we will want to be using the Hauppauge 45 button remote in here eventually as that's what we use on with our PCH's now. I was just trying to get to square-one and get the original gear working together. Like I said, any remote is better than none at this point. My wife doesn't like using the wireless keyboard and mouse on the couch. I am very adept with it but must admit it's a bit clumsy!

Thanks!

I'm out of ideas. Can you download the WinTV CD? I have no idea how the Hauppauge remote system (45 button/IR32/irremote.ini) coexists with the MCE version. The MCE uses the MS ehome device and drivers (should be able to see something like this in Device Manager); the original MS system uses a USB receiver, and the drivers are installed automagically when the receiver is plugged in, IIRC. They are included in Win 7 but were only in the MCE version of XP.

Hauppauge must do some trickery to get their receiver that connects to the tuner card to interface with the MCE system. I would expect a Hauppauge card to also work with their 45 button system. Maybe pBS will chime in, he is the resident expert on the MCE system.

So the 45 button remote works with the PCH? Maybe Martin has some insight?

I'll re-read this thread and see if anything comes to mind.

BTW, I lived in Monticello for many years. Good to see you're having a real Minnesota winter. Smile

I looked at your irremote.ini again. First thought is that there was a problem previously with the comments in the NPVR section causing problems. I don't recall exactly what it was, but the solution, IIRC, was to remove the comments. I would have thought someone would have fixed the wiki by now though. So, that would be the first thing I would try.

It looks like the Haup IR32 system interfaces directly with MCE, so maybe does not need the ehome drivers Do you have the full IR32 "system" installed, there is a dll and you should have menu items for the remote, I think there is a test program, etc. You might also look in the NPVR log to see what it is interpreting as far as key commands when it receives a remote button press.

Never mind, I think, on the comments comment. The problem has been fixed. If the comments are on the same line as the command, there is a problem. Separate line should be OK.

Your NPVR log should show if anything is getting to NPVR, but I guess the light on the receiver should blink as well?

The Hauppauge mce remote I have looks like this http://www.hauppauge.com/site/webstore2/...-mckit.asp and needs the usb box.
I don't know how the special 2250 version work.

Try this from here: http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/manuals/q...vr2250.pdf

Quote:The IR Configuration Utility is used to configure the WinTV-HVR’s
built-in remote control IR blaster for use with either WinTV v7 or
Windows Media Center.
N
ote: the WinTV-HVR-2250 board is initially configured
for it’s on-board remote control to be used with
WinTV v7. If you want to use the built-in remote control
with Windows Media Center, you must run the IR
Configuration Utility.
To run the IR Configuration Utility, go to the WinTV program group
and click on HCWCIRConfig_Tool.exe (this file can also be found on the
Hauppauge website at:
http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/software/...tool_1.2.2
8165.exe
You will see the dialog box Configure Hauppauge Remote Control
Receivers. If the WinTV-HVR-2250 contains the only IR receiver in your
PC, you will see a message One Media Center remote control has
been detected.
To configure as a Windows Media Center remote control, put a
check in the box labeled “Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250”.
To configure the IR blaster for use with WinTV v7 remote control,
remove the check from the box labeled “Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250”.
Click OK to save the changes.
Note: your computer must be restarted for the changes to take effect.

I use a Hauppauge remote with IR32.exe and Nova-t devices in the UK. There are registry settings at local-machine\software\hauppauge\ir for IRPort and I2Ctype that specify whether IR32 looks for the remote on one device or the other. I have no idea whether this is relevant to what you are doing.

All,
Thanks for the replies. Sorry for the slow response, I was traveling this week.

mikeh49 - yes, it's been a real winter here. Just cleared another 5" from my driveway today. It's great to be able to ski on real snow instead the man-made stuff like last year. On the downside I did enjoy riding my bike all last winter on clear roads and trails, a tougher go this year.

Yes, Martin got the Hauppauge 45 button remote working with the PCH and GBPVR/NPVR, I've been using it for years. You do have to run the client on the PCH to load the driver for it, so you either need to keep the PCH remote around for cold boots or have a USB drive with the app configured to run on power-up.

Maybe my issue is having too much stuff installed. I do have the full WinTV 7 installed. I added the hwconfig utility which I ran and will test when I can reboot later (NPVR is recording now). I also had previously installed the IR Suite, so that's in the mix as well. I have an Ir.exe in the task manager, also a WinTVTray.exe, which seems like the source of the remote control icon in my system tray.

I am wondering if I should be concerned about my IR head, as the LED comes on during boot-up, but does not flash when the remote buttons are pressed. Maybe this is normal. There doesn't seem to be an excess of information on this on the Hauppauge website.

Martin, my 2250 mce remote is very similar to yours, but it doesn't have the lower 5 buttons (the 4 colored buttons and whatever the bottom button is). The 2250 comes with a slightly different IR head, the connector is only about 2mm and has 3 connections (two black isolating bands), and plugs directly into the back off the 2250 card.

I'll let you know what happens after a reboot.

Thanks again,
-Brad

Well I still have had no luck with this.

I installed the R2 patches, not that I expected that to help with this, but since I was working on the system anyway I figured I'd get that done.

I ran HCWCIRConfig_Tool.exe. I tried it both ways (checked and unchecked) with reboots in between. I shutdown NPVR, the recording service and the tray status, then ran WinTV, again with it checked and unchecked, although it should have only worked when unchecked, right? That didn't work with the remote either. DeviceManager does list it as an MS eHome IR HID when it is checked in HCWCIRConfig_Tool, but not when it's unchecked. How would you expect it to show up when unchecked? I don't see it listed at all.

There are no entries in the NPVR.log file for remote commands when NPVR is running, checked or unchecked in HCWCIRConfig_Tool.

I still question whether my hardware is good or not. There is an LED inside the IR receiver head that comes on at boot up, but does not flicker when buttons on the remote are pressed (as is typical for these devices).

Graham, I checked my registry and do not have the key you mentioned. The only thing listed under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hauppauge is a key called HcwDriverInstall which contains two DWORDs and two Strings, but neither seem to relate to what you mentioned.

Any other thoughts on this? I was thinking of getting a raspberrypi to try raspbmc with my system, but I'd need a flirc (or similar) anyway so maybe I'd pick one of those up and give it a try. It annoys me that I can't seem to get this to work, but for $22 I could probably let it go. :-)

Just got a flirc usb remote interface, am going to try to set it up for my Hauppauge 45 button remote to control NPVR HTPC. I don't suppose anyone else has already done this? I'll see if I can get it going, I'll report back later.
