Installation problems specifically HDHR Prime tuners

Most people seem to use Schedules Direct, but I think some other options existed for getting north american xmltv listings for free, albeit a little legally gray (like mc2xml).

see the sticky notes on epg. mc2xml is free and will pull the legacy windows media center epg data (afaik it's the same data that Schedules Direct provides). the catch is that it's not technically within the windows license to pull the media center epg data for use with anything other than windows media center. to my knowledge Schedules Direct remains the only fully legal and licensed source of EPG data for US users.

I imported a few channels using XMLTV for testing. Guide data is there etc. I thought I was not able to view or record anything because of there being no guide data ? But I have other problems I'm afraid. I'm having problems with the NRVR recording service. I've attached the error that shows up along with the most recent log.

According to that message, it looks like the recording service isnt installed on your PC, or has been damaged. If it still does it after a reboot, then you'll probably have to reinstall.

I un-installed and installed NPVR (this is about the 5th time) and I keep hitting the same road block when trying to view any show. I looked for the NPVR recording service in task manager, and it is there but flagged as "Stopped". I can not start it. Says "The system cannot find the file specified". The NRecord.exe file is in the C:\Programs\NPVR folder. Can you tell me the name of the service and where it is supposed to be in the system?

If I had to guess I'd say there is something weird where the service associated with NPVR is not starting because it is not located in the correct place. I think I'll uninstall this again, but this time take a look at the registry and see if something there is not being removed. Maybe a reg. setting got messed up when I was playing around and experimenting with trying to install NPVR in something other than the default folder ??

Maybe try starting a command prompt with 'run as administrator' then change to the programfiles\npvr directory and run "nrecord.exe INSTALL".

Windows know's to run installers as administrator, so this shouldn't be required.

Well I have experienced that if you have UAC on it does not always do that.

Thanks guys .. Yes I've run everything while logged in as Administrator. My regular user account had admin. priv. But I know sometimes that doesn't work so I have tried installing everything both way several times.

I decided to try again with a fresh install of NPVR. To insure there were no left-overs in the system, I pruned the registry and removed all instances of NPVR and it's files from the system. Ran setup and am still not getting the NPVR recording service to work.

This IS a 64-bit system. I have had problems in the past trying to install maybe 2 or 3 other programs that just would not work correctly in a 64 bit Windows system. So I wonder if this might be an issue here. Tonight when I get home I'm going to try booting into a Win 7 32-bit OS and try again.

The computer in question is one I used to use to test some Beta software for a few companies. It has a BIOS with firmware that will allow me to select which booting device I want to use. I'm using a removable caddyless drive bay so when "playing" I can easily pull one of several drives to play with.

This works great for me because I can run Linux, and various other op systems while keeping all the hardware the same.

I'm guessing that IF I can get NPVR to install okay with Win 7 Pro 32-bit then there is most likely some specific item in the 64-bit system that is not the norm and causing NPVR to have trouble. I'll post here what I find. At least after I get a usable NPRV system I can then do some comparing between the two op systems. I'm pretty sure most of the guys here running 64 bit system ARE able to get them to work.
