In settings select Devices
highlight the device you want to setup
select the "Device Setup" button down the bottom
select the "Import" button
under EPG Source select Scheduled Direct

Thanks, Jaggy. I'll try that when my blood pressure subsides somewhat. Going down, though, because I got Windows Media Center set up and working. Say what you want about it, but it's dead simple to set up, and it is working. Click, click, click, watch, record. Not NPVR but at least working.

I won't disagree that WMC is simple to set up, but npvr is not so complicated once you understand the philosophy behind it. I have only a few analog channels so I'v set them up manually but I realize that if you have 50+ channels or so setting them up manually is not an option.

The good thing thou, is that once you have set up one device you can just let npvr copy the configuration to the rest.

Setup of the OTA ATSC and my HDPVR were much easier than analog. Because sub supports only the mpeg .ts format, for licensing reasons sub choose to base NextPVR on the assumption that WinTV is installed. If it had been, analog install with Schedules Direct would have been straight forward too, but I stand by earlier statements that a new user should expect to devote a couple of hours for the first time setup. At the end it is worth it.

You're right. Once you know the code words and secret handshake, then it is dead simple. Got a problem, though - no video on recordings, just audio. How do I fix that?

A couple of hours is not unreasonable, but, given the paucity of instructions, I find it hard to believe that anyone could meet that. I wish I had been able to do it in two hours, but here it is about 12 hours after I started, some of which was installing Windows 7, and still no ability to record, except, of course, with WMC.

It's probably to do with the MPEG2 decoder selected on the Settings->Decoders screen.

You're probably right. I could play the file with Windows Media Player, and video seems okay. What should the decoder setting be?

NextPVR doesn't install any decoders, so unfortunately there is no preferred decoder setttings. You basically have to choose a decoder from the list of decoders you already have installed on your machine.

If you tell us what options you have listed, we can probably recommend one. Otherwise, just give one a go and see how you get on.

Okay, the Main Concept one seems to work. One problem I noticed, though, is that, when recording 4 channels, the 4th tuner gives much worse quality than the other three. Must that necessarily be a hardware problem and, therefore, not fixable?

I'm not aware of any issues that would cause that.

In what way is it way is it worse? Is it breaking up, or does the picture look softer, or something else? It's a hardware encoder, and four identical devices should produce same quality picture.

It's very grainy. Almost unwatchable.
