There is no recommended settings.

Given you're in the US, you'll need to make sure you select an MPEG2 video decoder, and an AC3 audio decoder.

Any suggestions? just installed ac3 filter and selected that. Also using microsoft dvt-dvt as the mpeg2 decoder to no avail.

The Microsoft decoder should be fine. You may also find you need a firewall rules to allow nrecord.exe/ndigitalhost.exe to access your HDHR. This is pretty common for HDHR users.
