Well, it's seems I just don't have the savvy to get on top of the transcoding problem. I've done some reading on ffmpeg arguments etc etc. but just can't find an answer.

All I know for sure is that the ffmpeg that ships with nextpvr doesn't appear to be fully compatible with Windows 7 x64. At least that's the message I'm getting from Windows when I try live tv with transcode. I don't know if it's a change in Newa or a Windows update that caused the problem.

I am going to attempt to reinstall Windows x32 and install Nextpvr with Newa version 1.29 and see if Transcoding comes back to life.

Have you had any thoughts on this UJB??

Have you tried the newest version of ffmpeg? I got better results with it because the one included with npvr is pretty old. My problem was that ffmpeg did not behave the same in a realtime situation as when I tested in a batch.

Thanks for the reply Reddwarf,

I did try downloading a static build, both 32 and 64, of the latest ffmpeg. The result was the same. I'm still on the learning curve with ffmpeg. (It definatly requires more time than I have at the moment) I am fairly certain that the arguments need to be updated as well, but I'm having trouble figuring out if the problem is with the arguments in the Config file, or if some of the arguments ( [bitrate] [source] etc. are not getting passed on to the ffmpeg command line. Then, of course, there's the consideration of 32 or 64 bit windows and how it affects the behaviour of Nextpvr, Newa, VLC, and ffmpeg.

Is there any chance you could give me a look at your setup and the ffmpeg arguments you use?

Here's a line from my test.bat file, but I really can't remember if this one worked or not.
Code:
"C:\Program Files\ffmpeg\bin\ffmpeg" -i wild_china.ts -map 0:s -c:s scale=0.375 -map 0:a -c: copy -map 0:v -vf scale=720:420 -c:v libx264 -preset:v ultrafast -maxrate 10M -bufsize 10M -f mpegts out.ts

I don't think is matters if you use the 32 or 64 bit ffmpeg, it runs in a separate process anyway.

I'll see if I can find the time to do some more experimenting with this in the days to come, I'd like to have this sorted too.

That's the log output from ffmpeg, you can ignore it. the interesting output will be in Web.log, Nrecord.log ans Transcode.txt.

To be honest I haven't had time to dig into it more. Kinda gave up on it. Sure would like to get a fix for it.

I've been wondering why it couldn't stream the live tv via vlc player in the same way streaming of a movie or music works. It seems to me that the live-tv feed would write a file on the HD as it was playing (this is what allows ff and rew, pause etc.)

To get around it, I have been setting a recording of the show I want to watch, wait ten minutes and then just stream the recording file to vlc as usual. To facilitate this I just added the recording directory to my video folder via npvr configuration.

That's all I have to date.
