Yeah, I did read about changing that setting and I have done that. I guess I just figured that that the combo of xbmc w/ npvr plugin and npvr backend would handle the transcoding automatically. I guess not. Just surprised that people seem happy with this setup and yet can't handle HDTV. They must be streaming SDTV exclusively.

Why would you assume using xbmc makes it an internet solution? Just because people are happy watching transcoded TV on a smartphone (and i'm not one) doesn't translate to happy watch full HD. I'd go back and try with NEWA and see what quality/stabilty level you can achieve.

I don't think anybody is trying to use it across the internet. Its only intended to be a local area network solution, not an internet solution.

I've actually seen streaming live tv (HD source) across the internet. Can you view it full screen? Yes. Does it look just like HDTV? No. Does it look pretty darn good, considering? Yes. Does it constantly buffer? No. Do I know how they are doing it? No. Would I like to know? Yes. I would post a link so that you can see it for yourself but I believe the practice and the links are illegal (these are people who are just streaming content to the world). I've also watched the Masters Golf (live) and NBCs Olympic coverage (live) over the internet and that looks exactly like HD.

Yes, I have run across some threads of people claiming some level of happiness across the internet but perhaps I misinterpreted what happiness was or what exactly they are trying to stream.

The transcoding solutions that I suggested earlier doesn't mean that they aren't high quality, but I can't make you actually try them.

Martin,

I'm pretty ignorant and I just don't understand the transcoding options that you suggested. Are you talking about X-NEWA?

NEWA does the transcoding with VLC on the server, then you have the option of the web browser with VLC on the client or X-NEWA and XBMC to playback. It is not a particularly easy solution and I'd suggest getting something working on you LAN first.

As far as "on the lan first". Other than the freezing issue that you are sub are troubleshooting, I've got NPVR client working fine with NPVR. Is that what you mean by "on the lan first" or are you saying I should try the x-newa option across the lan before I try it across the internet?

BTW, is the correct download for x-newa 1.4.7 (like GBPVR's final number?)

BTW, I've also got the NPVR plugin working across the lan from xbmc.

I meant using NEWA for transcoded playback.
