My apologies! tuners are HVR-1255's. I checked the Realtek HDMI output properties sample rates of 32.0, 44.1, and 48.0 KHz and all tested fine. I noticed a couple of "tick" boxes on that panel that speak about "exclusive mode" for applications. Might this be involved?
I also see when Live TV is on that when right-clicking and bringing up the dialogue box on Audio Stream, I see "Disabled, Track 1 - Eng, Track 2- Spa". How could I change "disabled"?
Also, on the AC3Filter Properties box "main" tab, I notice a part for 'Decoder info' with the following... Input format: Unknown-0, user Format: PCM 16 Stereo 0, Output format: Unknown-0.
Before I get to changing drivers, I need to know if my AC3Filter is in correct config. Anyone familiar with this?

Post a pic of your HDMI devices "Supported Formats" tab and I can tell you the AC3Filter settings you need.

Burning the midnight oil...

So your default audio output is "Realtek HDMI Output (ATI HDMI Audio)"? My algebra teachers used to say you should solve the part in parentheses first, but I'm afraid that's the part I cannot help you with.

Glad to hear you checked Audio Stream via the right-click menu. "Disabled" is an option, not a status report. For "Track 1" it actually said "[AC3, eng]" didn't it? In any case, your logs show that NPVR correctly identified the audio as AC3.

You plan to use the built-in speakers of your Panasonic TV, correct? It probably has just two speakers, so at some point the AC3 Dolby Digital must be converted to 16-bit PCM 2-channel stereo. It's probably best to have AC3Filter do that. Were you able to hear a test tone on your TV with "Dolby Digital" checked on the "Supported Formats" tab of Realtek HDMI Output? Your TV might be able to decode Dolby via HDMI for all I know, but mine definitely could not. BTW your Realtek is at least a little different from mine because I have no check box for sample rate 32 kHz. (DVDs use 48 kHz, CDs and most audio files use 44.1 kHz.) I did not check "Give exclusive mode applications priority" when using either HDMI or Speakers, but I don't really understand that setting.

You quoted part of AC3Filter's Main tab which is just like mine except my user format reads "PCM16 2/0 (stereo) 0". The most important settings are in the upper-left corner of the tab, where I have:

Output format: 2/0 - stereo (If your TV has more than two speakers, this will need to be different.)

Rate: 48000 (AKA 48 kHz. "AS IS" also works with Speakers, but I never tried it with HDMI.)

Format: PCM 16bit

On the "System" tab under "Default audio renderer," is "Use Direct Sound by default" checked? If these settings don't work for you, then you should probably investigate that ATI Catalyst that whurlston mentioned in an earlier post.

He does not have a decoder problem, the matter is of configuring his HDMI audio output.
