jcjefferies beat me on this - the Freeview lite transmitters only have a limited number of channels.

If I were you - and I'm not, so please feel free to ignore this - I would put your postcode in to http://www.ukfree.tv/transmitters.php then use the terrain maps further down the page to find the best transmitter - preferably a Full Freeview one and get something like a Log Periodic Aerial pointing directly at it.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

As jcjefferies and Lao Pan are implying - the aerial needs to be the right type, orientation and pointing in the right direction, i.e., towards the main transmitter for the postcode. The ukfree.tv link for transmitters is a good start.

Hi Guys
The advice gets better.
It's interesting for me that I live 0.6Km from the Brierley Hill transmitter and have a clear line of site but if I try to tune to this I only can find half a dozen stations.
The Brierley Hill Transmitter is repeater (or whatever the term is) for Sutton Coalfield, but I do not have a direct line of site to this main transmitter.
If I try to tune to the Sutton Coalfield transmitter I hardly get any channels so it looks to me like they use a different set of frequencies.
I'm resigned to tuning all regions all frequencies and sorting out the weak signal channels.
To answer jcjefferies above I have invested in a new top range aerial and I already have a DVB-S card for HD channels fitted.
Windows 11 Professional (x64), AMD Ryzen 9 9000X, ASUS TUF Gaming 850-Plus WIFI, 64GB DDR5 RAM, Samsung SSD 990 EVO Plus 1TB (OS), TBS 6281 Dual DVB-T2/T BDA Tuner, TBS 6981 DVB-S/S2 DUAL BDA Tuner.

What polarisation is your aerial? It is obviously not going to be suitable for both Sutton Colefield (Horizontal) and Brierly Hill (Vertical).

Bob - what DVB-T tuner cards do you have? Looking at the npvr tuning INI file for Brierley Hill, all the frequencies are "centre" frequencies whereas looking at the ukfree.tv site several of the MUX frequencies are at a +/- 167KHz offset. If you have Hauppauge cards it won't mater as the drivers automatically try +/- offsets of whatever frequency npvr tells them to scan but some cards require the exact frequency. Try a scan of Brierley Hill and check the box marked "Scan Offsets".

Sorry to jump in on your thread OP.

Lao Pan Wrote:You need an up to date dvb-t tuning ini file for your Freeview transmitter - then it will only tune to those frequencies. If you let me know which transmitter it is, I'll do one for you.
Would you mind doing me one for The Wrekin or telling me how you go about compiling one?

According to the ukfree.tv site, the current INI supplied with npvr is accurate for The Wrekin (with centre frequencies at least - not offsets).

That's strange because if I scan The Wrekin it picks up most but not all channels and they are all out of order. But if I scan all frequencies it picks up all channels and they are in order.

The sutton coldfield transmitter is the same distance away in the oposite direction, wonder if that has anything to do with it.

OK - the way to check if Sutton Coldfield is having an effect (this applies to BobbyBear and Croftie).

In NextPVR go to Settings -> Devices, select a device and click the Device Setup button.

In the details column it will show the frequency in KHz (ignore the SID).

The frequencies used by Sutton Coldfield are as follows...
Code:
626000
650000
674000
618000
642000
666000
...none of those frequencies are used by either Brierley Hill or The Wrekin so, basically, if any of them appear in the Details column then the scan is picking up Sutton Coldfield.

The frequencies used for specific region scans are text INI files in the npvr data folder under Tuning\DVB-T\ and are named "United Kingdom - Central - <transmitter name>"

Thanks bgowland, none of those are in the list. To be honest as long as I can pickup all channels one way or another I'm not to bothered. That said if something isn't working right I'm happy to help investigate.
