On windows 8 you have to enable the earlier .net versions through "programs & features", then "turn windows features on or off".

This will become irrelevant with the next version of npvr I think.

I found where the setting was and went back to the older version. I rebooted but I`m still getting the same thing when i start NPVR. What should I try next?

open a command prompt, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\NPVR, type "NRecord RUN" and post the output.

Thank you guys I was able to get it to work. I uninstalled and re-installed NPVR then it started working. It also works in XBMC. Channel changing is slow and it seems a little pixelated but I just think I need to play around with the settings some more.

This is a well known problem with XBMC, and affects most of the PVR backend options. There has been some personal builds posted on the XBMC forums that address the issue, and get the channel changes down to a couple of seconds. These changes should be incorporated into a future XBMC build, to give you the quick channel change time without needing special builds.
