This definitely does appear to be the problem, experimenting with the latest version on client and server (re-installed today). For the affected multiplex:
  • Watching Live TV on Server works correctly
  • Watching Live TV on Client shows blank screen, waiting a few seconds then skipping forwards starts playing
  • Recorded shows on server or client do not play, skipping forwards quickly starts playback, if left for a few seconds, returns to menu

Hopefully there is a longer term fix but the workaround will suffice after "training" the family!

I have downloaded and installed today's version of 3.4.8 and the problems persists.

After the install, attempts to play Pending recordings just seemed to hang in the air and playback doesn't begins without some presses on the Skip key. Playback of a Ready recording starts and immediately ends. If I am quick, I can catch the playback with a press of the Skip key. It does appear that the playback jumps straight to the end of the recording file.

A recording created with CutChunk is at http://we.tl/w4msYtbeKJ

Windows Media Player just hangs when attempting to play this chunk. The file plays fine in Media Player Classic.

Playing a pending recording makes no sense, it is not recorded yet!

surely nextpvr is able to skip into the future? This is 2015 after all!

or is it that in progress recordings appear under "pending"....

Actually, you can find and view an "in progress" recording from the "pending recordings" screen. Independent of the semantics, I think what Graham is saying is that an in progress recording just goes to a blank screen and a finished recording jumps to the end. Both of these effects can be negated if you initiate a "skip ahead" right after the play command. After the recording plays past the beginning of the file it is fine. The chunk file posted by Graham is a good sample of a "corrupted" file.

Lao Pan Wrote:Had that problem immediately after upgrading to NextPVR v3.4.8 possibly on that mux - but it seemed to stop after one of the updated installers. I do record from 5USA and Drama most weeks without problems now. Make sure you have the latest installer - only way is to download it again and try.

Had this problem last night - 5 USA tried to watch in progress recording - black screen at start. Any attempt to watch from the beginning causes black screen. Exit after 3-4 seconds and resume and the file plays fine. Either the start of the file is being corrupted or the Reference frames are to far apart for NextPVR to find the first one.

I've had a look at a couple of files in videoredo and what appears to be happening is after about 3 seconds the audio drops out, then after a second or two of silence there is corrupted frames then the timeline resumes at 14 seconds (about 10 seconds missing) and all plays fine after that.
I expect it is the dropped audio that is causing NextPVR to go back to the TV Guide.

This is affecting most (maybe all) channels on The SDN (COM 4) Mux
Ther were channel hours changes on the first of July and a load of streaming channels (MHEG5 ?stuff) added on the 7th on this mux - wonder if the PID's have changed or something.

Any chance you could look at this now you are back home Sub - all recordings since the 7th July from this mux require an immediate forward skip to start playing
Just say what you need to look into it and I'm sure either Graham or my self will provide.

Here is one I've just caught - about 40 seconds starting a recording from the middle of a show (10mb) It won't play in NPVR and is too short to try a skip.
It does play in MPC-HC thought.
