How to turn on recording service? (unable to communicate with recording service)

I restarted the computer and I now get the "Unable to communicate with recording service" error.

NextPVR relies on files that include config.xml and npvr.db3 that reside in the data folder ... http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...alledParts

The application won''t function without these files so they must be somewhere ... I expect that the logs will be in a sub-folder of the folder that contains config.xml and npvr.db3.

You guys are great, thank you for so many replies.

I did the above and found where the logs are sent. Everything was in another drive even though the program itself was on the C drive.

Either way what logs do you want to see and is thee anything in those logs that I should remove for security reasons?

Depends on what programs you have been watching,

Just zip and attache the entire logs folder: right click on the folder>send to>compressed (zipped) folder. Attache the resulting folder with the .zip extension.

Nothing on NEXTPVR as it won't work:p Besides, we all know "the internet is for porn"... Not NEXTPVR.

Anyway the nrecord.log is attached.

I also looked in the NPVR.log and found this unexpected error.

It looks like you've got a mismatched set of files, like you upgraded to the current release and left the software running (causing some files to not be updated), or you've installed some old patch.

The best think to do is run the 'Stop NPVR Service' shortcut, then rerun the installer. After that you should have a consistent set of files.

Ok so this kind of makes sense.

I haven't updated NEXTPVR since I installed it but I did suddenly have a schedules direct issue where I I got an error when trying to select schedules direct for the EPG. I did a search on this forum and found a soolution that said to download a newer Nshared.dll and replace it with my old one. THis worked, I was able to select schedules direct and map EPG but then had issues with channels playing. I restarted the computer and that is when I got the unable to communicate error.

Where is the installer I should run, should I download the latest version of NEXTPVR? Should I uninstall the old version or just run the installer without uninstalling?

Yeah, you've installed a patch not intended for the older version of NextPVR you're running.

You don't need to uninstall. Make sure sure you stop the software first before reinstalling though.

I updated and everything seems to work fin agian in NEXTPVR.

Now I have a problem with NEXTPVR playing in kodi/ XBMC. Does NEXTPVR have anything to do with the NRXTPVR plugin for Kodi?

It will work for the first channel I select, but then takes a long tie and says "tuner not available" when I want to change channels.

The NextPVR plugin for Kodi is developed by the same team of skilled professionals that produce NextPVR. There is a good chance that someone here will be able to help with "tuner not available".

The bad news is that you will need to post NextPVR logs and Kodi logs that show the problem. Please tell us the time of the error so that we know where to look in the logs. Thanks.
