I know that NextPVR doesn't install any decoders. I'm using the same decoders that I was using on a previous version. the previous version worked fine, but had some issues. I was hoping that the new version eliminated some of those issues.

The installed decoders list.

ffdshow video decoder.
ffdshow DXVA video decoder.
SONIC AVC/H VIDEO DECODER.
LAV video decoder.
ATI MPEG video decoder.
Microsoft DTV/DVD video decoder.
DivX video decoder.

If there is a different video decoder that I need, let me know and I will download it.

Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.'s

Are you on Windows 7? If so, the 'Microsoft DTV/DVD video decoder' is a good choice for MPEG2 video decoder for the USA. 'ffdshow video decoder' should also be fine, but you'll need to enable the MPEG2 support in it's settings first (MPEG2 is disabled by default).

I finally got it working. I had to uninstall the program, remove all files from the in NPVR and the user directory. I also searched and removed any files in the registry related to the NPVR program. I then reinstalled the program. It is now working.

thanks to everyone who tried to help.
It took a clean install to correct the problem. Too many files were left over from the previous uninstall process. Something that should be addressed.

First of all, I never change anything randomly. Second, I would not have changed anything if it had worked like the previous version. so backing up the XML file would not of helped. when I changed decoders, it was to the only decoder that would work at that time. By changing the decoder back to the way it was, it left me with an unusable program. So get off your high horse, and come back down to earth.

I appreciate the help, but that's what this form is for. Not to be cursed at or chastised.

if you want to do that, I recommend you get off this and any other form, and seek help for your problem. it is not appreciated or appropriate. if you can't say something without cursing, don't say anything at all. it just shows people your worst side, and maybe the extent of your vocabulary, or lack of.

Good to see everything is now working but as for bad vibes here no one knows how people are truly feeling so a lot rides on how sentences are structured. I for one was reading each entry figuring most people were helping then I saw this:

"I know that NextPVR doesn't install any decoders."

My first reaction was the poster was slamming back at those trying to help. But then figured OP's frustration was coming forward and I totally get that!

This may have been the catalyst for the following posts recommending a backup process. I have been here for a while and can't remember anyone being on High Horses but you never know.

Lesson learned: Choose your words carefully, you may still misrepresent yourself but at least you tried.

Hear, hear Wilbour.

The advice given here isn't necessarily only for the person with the problem but for others to heed as well.
Everybody is giving their advice freely to help others.

just to clarify, I truly do appreciate any and all help given on this board, or any other board like it. The people on these boards are truly a valuable asset, and deserve respect. The sharing of information and experience, is the kind of thing that makes the Internet worthwhile.

Unfortunately I have run into too many trolls trying to start something on some boards. this is a form of bullying, and should not be allowed. It degrades the entire board when that happens. nor is it fair to the other members who truly want to help. The use of profanity, or slamming someone for doing something or not doing something that they think they should do, or asking what they think is a dumb question, About something they should have known. Does not reflect good on the board itself. People come to these boards because they have a problem. Not to be bullied or cursed at. and remember, if you don't know the answer to a question, it's not a dumb question.

I guess I just got tired of it a long time ago when I was a member of another board for a very short time. I had not posted much on the board, mainly just an introduction. Another member who was new to the board was looking for information on his machine. Several members suddenly started cursing at him and slamming the new member for wanting them to reproduce copyrighted material. The problem was that the material had already been published on that board. It was in the form of a US government document that was freely available and not copyrighted. When they were informed that the document already Existed on their board, they started cursing and slamming the other person. It might have been funny, if the moderator had put a stop to it from the start. unfortunately the moderator was one of the bullies. I left the board and never look back. I found a new board which was very well moderated and very intolerant of bullies. later on I found out that others felt the same way. it seems the moderator of the previous board. was a known troll. he would join using a different screen name. But as soon as he started making trouble for the group, the moderator would ban him. They knew who he was by tracing his IP address, what he did for a living, and where he lived. He would show up, just to cause trouble.

No one should be bullied, Nor should anyone have to put up with a bully.

again, I truly appreciate all who tried to help, thank you. you have my Respect and Admiration.

OK so maybe I shouldn't have used shit
But you selected fse and that's not the default setting
In another thread you changed another setting that is not set by default which had similar results
All I'm trying to say is back up your config file now so next time you have issues you have a reference of what did work and you can compare old and new

I'm sorry if I offended you or anyone but that's just the way I am
I'm not a troll (maybe a smart arse)

I was just trying to get across to make a backup
