Kodi can't play http files that grow past the original end-point. x-newa and pkscout's skin for pvr.nextpvr hooked up to x-newa can avoid http by playing the files from a share.

How do i do this. I just tried playing back a currently recording show and it stops at the original end point. So i'm obviously not using a share.

Note that even when playing from a share, if you try to skip past the end point playback jumps back to the original end point so it essentially still "stops". I think a normal fast forward might work past the original end point, but skipping (e.g., skipping 30s ahead with arrow key) does not. This is a long-standing deficiency in Kodi that unfortunately does not look like it will ever be addressed.

You can play from a share by using network path substitution in Kodi. For example, I have this in my advancedsettings.xml:
